The Blue Weimaraner Club of America have recently created a website for those interested in learning more about their Club and their goals for the blue Weimaraner.
If you would like to take a look, visit them at www.bwcoa.com. They will also welcome your feedback on the Club and/or website. You can send them to feedback@bwcoa.com or visit their forum at www.bwcoa.com/phpBB2/
My personal feeling is that if people wish to breed the blue then they should be looking to have it recognised as a seperate breed, I have no idea where hunting ability comes on their list of priorities either. _________________ Fi 1 year old Weimaraner
Grace Weimaraner. Gone but not forgotten.
Harley Weimaraner. Much loved and sorely missed.
they are asking the WCA for a removal of the DQ personally I think they won't get it and will just cause more upset than going down the route of becoming an independant breed... pity another missed opportunity to improve their own lot _________________ These are my personal opinions and do not represent in any way the views of the WCGB.
Gosh, they are rather smart, aren't they - I agree Bill, I prefer this colour. I know I'll probably offend you all so I apologise now - I think it makes the original Weims look washed out. But then I'm the one that said the American Brittany is a different breed to ours so who am I to talk _________________ Aberdon HPR's. Good-looking AND Intelligent.
Many Weis are lacking the "metallic sheen" which does make them look washed out, and you do get that gleam from the blues. They can look very stylish. However, IMHO the blues must have come from the introduction of non-Wei blood somewhere along the line, so I don't think they should be encouraged. _________________ Liz

A DQ is a disqualification the Blue is not recognised although a few countries are seeing them imported and able to register because of a reciprocal agreement with the AKC and the UK Kennel Club.
There is a lot of nonsense about the blue and where it came from you'd be hard pushed to find a weimaraner that at some point doesn't have it in the genes due to export of dogs from america and in all likelihood it was a cross breed but who really knows?? Personally I'd rather they opted for independant status so that puppy farmers don't see them as the next best handbag and breed them up like a yoyo! _________________ These are my personal opinions and do not represent in any way the views of the WCGB.
If I liked the dog and it hunted really well, I'd take one. But then again there is very little chance of that. Blues, in general, are in even sorrier shape than the silver-greys.

A DQ disqualifies a dog from the show ring and maybe a few other venues in some clubs. But a DQ has zero effect on the dog's ability to perform in the field. Unfortunately, as I mentioned above, you could probably count the number of hard hunting, good running blues on the fingers of a blind band-saw operator. Blue breeders have DQ'd the breed themselves from the field by breeding piss poor hunting dogs (to be fair, I do know of perhaps 2 or 3 blues than can hunt).

Me too. But it is too late for the puppy farmer thing. They've had them for years and are producing lots of blues...even longhaired blues. If they became a new breed with some sort of fancy name and ended up on calendars and mousepads dressed up as blue cinderellas, it will be deja vu all over again!
