What is the best way to remove the dead coat from a GLP, are there any good shampoos for the coat or tools that help with a long hair coat rather than a wire coat.

When I had English Setters I used a slicker brush and found it to be very effective. I am sure there are more brushes on the market now though.
Perhaps Brenda [Langhaar] will be able to offer some help?

I find a slicker is really good with getting the dead hair out of my GLP's coat too. I also use a plastic curry comb, which is a brush for horses and it does the job as well. Shampooing is always fun, but my bitch's coat comes up nicely with any dog shampoo - I use one with  a nice smell as it also gets rids of the smell of fox poo which she tends to roll in aleast once a week!

I do use a furminator when it's coat shedding time, but don't loose concentration, Affie nearly ended up bald. I roller at other times and rub with the block which is like pumice stone which Sharon told Larry about. What do they call it Sharon?, no let's keep this a secret ! Any way it really makes coats gleam, thanks for that advice.

Always wash them at least 2 days before as I've nearly been hung drawn and quartered by he who must be obeyed for giving them  "dead tail ".

Horse mane and tail detangle spray makes tails and ears easier to combe through.

I use a children's one - much cheaper than horse stuff, in a spray bottle and smells nice - does the same detangler job

I just knew someone was going to ask, and can I find it?  Must be out in the kennel I think, if there is any left.  However, I have one for myself - I have very curly hair and it can get knotty if I let it get too long so I use L'Oreal Elvive antifrizz serum for 'dry, frizzy, rebellious hair'.  I think it was less than £1 but it was about a year ago as you don't need much of it.  I'll try to find the kids one and let you know, I have a feeling it was Boots.
