Just thought it would be nice for a boot on the other foot story. Simone has flown Gos Hawks in Northumberland since a teenager with setters and a GWP. She now owns Elfie her first GLP.
She was told her bitch is cracking so thought why not take her to a show, something she has never done or thought about before.
Elfie was RBOB at Mid Western yesterday and 2 nd in AV Puppy out of 15.
Simone will also try WT's and trials.

Brother Elko went RBPIS, his owner Wayne works on the Kirtlington Estate.
Pls pass on our congratulations Brenda - she looks very nice. What a cracking litter - you must both be very proud _________________ Sharon Pinkerton

I've only just seen this. We met Elfie and her owners, but only saw Elko from a distance. We thought Elfie absolutely cracking (Beecham was rather star struck too - he loves your bitches, Brenda). Pity we didn't have time to talk further - Ian would have loved to have heard about the Gos Hawks.
Simone has owned pointing breeds for many years, her setters were working bred but I can't remember which kennel, maybe Upperwood.
She flys her hawks in Northumberland / Cumbria but her latest is very up tight and doesn't like strangers. Simone is out every weekend in the season, on her own with hawk and dog.
Another, Elise has gone to a Gos enthusiast.
This breed seems to be compatable with both hawks and falcons. Afra regularly points partridge for a young tiercel. Had a wonderfull few hours out with Konan who produced a cock pheasant for a perigrine. She had killed a partridge the day before so Paul wanted to see how she could cope with a bigger bird. When the GLP flushed she brought the pheasant down no problem. Paul offered the head to Konan as a reward for doing a good job.
Best time was going up to Caithness to collect my pointer and spent a weekend out with Roger Upton and Stephen Franks and 6 peregrines.I will remember this time forever.

Lovely to read your posts.
It is something I dream about doing one day, and it is so lovely just to have those days out with just the animals, working them at their best.
I was just wondering as I know a shepherd who lets someone fly hawks on his bit in Kielder Forest. Wondered if it was the same people. I would love to fly hawks over pointers - particularly on grouse!
Our pointers and setter come from the Upperwood kennel - cracking dogs!
