This morning out walking,  the lurcher took off after a hare in a long grass field but lost her. Kt could see the hare was clear off the field and watched as Coco hit the line and feathered along it.

Is this good practice for the pup to learn new scent. Should we call her off in future to curb her chasinng them?

I personally wouldn't want a dog of mine to spend a lot of time feathering on ground scent as it's not what ultimately I want my dog to do.   Game has basically gone away and although she needs to understand that the game has gone she mustn't dwell too much on residual scent.

With puppies/youngsters I always use a 3 second rule - count to three and either point/produce or move on Smile

I agree with Sharon. My own rule is that a dog should either be pointing hard or running hard with very little in between the two.
