Hi All
Just joined I have a 14mth old Large Munsterlander, Schmurf - I will be primarily competing in obedience with him but as he passed his Natural Aptitude test with such pleasure and enthusiasm I feel that I should do some gundog stuff with him
So we know own 2 canvas dummies, 2 water dummies, 1 rabbit fur covered dummy and several gundog books and still are not much closer to knowing what we are to do with everything - or should I rephrase that and say I am not much closer _________________ Regards
Hi Tina,
Welcome to the board, interesting you should mention the number of dummies you have aquired, that could be the cue for the start of a new thread . I am off to get ready for the Scottish Nat Apt so I will have to wait to see if anyone takes the bait
Once again welcome to the board.
Peter
Hi All, I will answer everyones post in one if that is okay as I can't work out how to reply to each one.
Hi Christine,
Yep Schmurf is Georgia's son - Clover at birth!! Hooked - I should say so.........Booked my next monster, a bitch out of Fee's next litter - she seems a nice solid but drivey (is that a word) bitch. She will be called Susse (german for sweetness!!!is a munstie ever?!) Schmurf's growing issues have now resolved but to say he is a good friend of the vet is an understatement - with the following issues - growing pains, pulled ligaments, banged shoulder, gastroenteritis (from local butcher who cooked his dog meat for him!!), interdigital cyst - reactions to jabs for interdigital cyst, swallowed rather large latex ball -whole - but fortunately sicked it up-, and recently a dilated pupil due to banging the nerves in his shoulder But I wouldn't have him any other way - he is all go or asleep. Bought him a paddling pool today - he loves it!!!!though I'm sure it isn't muddy enough for him!!
Hi Sue, I love Eva -she was Schmurf's babysitter when he was a wee pup I will be going to the LMC show in october - not sure if I will be entering, will get Christine Ogle tocast her eye over him and see if he has matured enough to at least take on his brothers!!
Hi Peter, I was so pleased when Schmurf passed his nat apt test - I was convinced we would fail the contol element But he even retreived a pigeon from the water and after all had finished flushed and swam after a coot which had me worried as the water was quite choppy - had no control then
Helen,
I am not aware of any HPR near us though the munstie club do training days and I have attended one of those to date and will most probably attend more. But I have the books and what looks like a useful forum of experienced HPR handlers to hopefully gleen useful tips from!! _________________ Regards

Hi again Tina
We'll hope to see you in October then. Beecham won't be competing anyway. Yes, we too know about 'the vet's friend'; one of my human friends suggested that I paid the vet's wages with my last LM - didn't go down too well with the vet when I told him!!! With any luck, we may have a brother to your next pup then - all fingers crossed Fee has some boys too. Good luck with your gundog training
Best wishes
Sue
Hi, your boy has been through the wars a bit hasn't he? My old girl Asti (Now deceased) had growth plate problems as a 6 month old but as soon as my vet sussed out that she was getting tripe in her diet (It has a very poor ratio of calcium to phosporous) the cause was found and rectified with calcium tablets!
I have a feeling before you got Schmurf you may have contacted me about the breed, if you live in the York area it was definitely you! I'm always happy to help out genuine enquirers, this isn't a breed for taking on whim! I always say to people if they want one from me, they'll have a long wait (Thankfully most people are patient!) as I only breed when I can keep something myself. I have a vacancy now with Asti's death!!!!!! _________________ Jägerreh - we do things First!
Where abouts in the country are you Tina? The gsp club run a lot of training clubs around the country. Might be worth contacting them to see if they have anything. They run once a month throughout the summer months.
We've just organised our own training sessions. We, being Trace (Rhimad) and myself. We meet up once in a while (only had one so far) at different locations and help each other out. It's a real motivator and does help getting someone elses perspective on things.
