Hi there,
Just about to re-home my Mother-in-Laws GSP. Got 2x Jack Russells, and a little apprehensive about the new addition!! Any hints? I'm hoping to train it for working and also for Field Trials. Total beginner!!
Welcome to the forum David, and well done on giving the GSP a new home! First hint is to remember that it isn't a race and spend as much time as is necessary building solid foundations, you won't regret it! _________________ Fi 1 year old Weimaraner

David,
Just seen that your based in Okehampton, Devon. I strongly recommend you contact Steve Kimberley (he is based in Winkleigh, not far from you at all) for some guidance, I know they are starting evening classes up again at some point in March. You can ring Steve or Coshy on 01837 682866 _________________ Fi 1 year old Weimaraner

am new to this forum myself and got a young girlie gsp 20 months.
have you got girlie or boy and how old - fab that you could take the dog.
they are fab, fab fab
they do test your patience a bit but hang in there as they do start to mature at about 4 years - best get some hair colourant
got my girlie out in the field at the end of last season to get her used to everything and she surpassed herself. on her 4th and final day out as it was beaters day and the last day she made 3 wonderful retrieves - and i looked like i had been to bed with a coathanger in my mouth
the only HPR among all those spangles and labs - brilliant
let us know how you progress. _________________ ruth

Thanks to all for the wonderful welcome - glad that I can get in touch with like minded/more knowledgeable people quickly.
Ruth, he is 8 months old, bit on the large side (used to terriers personally!) He is, however, very handsome and will post pics after I get him (possibly this weekend).
i have booked a day with steve kimberley - he is doing a couple of days in kent - apparently he is really good - also he has or had a gsp.
his book is really good too its available through the sporting shooter.
we take our youngster to the gsp club training every 4 weeks in sussex i will try to find out if there is one in your neck of the woods. _________________ ruth
Well, tomorrow is the Big Day - collecting Tash tomorrow am. Getting a little nervous now!
I have e-mailed Steve Kimberly with a few concerns (he only lives about 10 miles away) and he has set my mind at ease and I am going to take said dog to a course of Gun dog training classes starting in March - fingers crossed.
