Nice Forum!!

My name is Tom. I am from Kansas and I own two AKC registered Weimaraners right now. My female 'Belle' is 2 years old and is my pride and joy. 'Sarge' our male, is a recent purchase in order to provide stud services for Belle. She is due with her first litter at the end of April. Belle has hunted with me this past season and has done pretty well considering her trainer (me) is an amateur.
Sarge has a lot of potential but I have barely begun to work with him. His mind has been elsewhere right now so I am working on some basic obedience but that is it. He is a year old and his prior owner rarely worked with him, so he is a special project. I believe he will make a great hunting companion soon enough.
Belle is mainly an upland hunter. She has some difficulty with retrieving, as she would initially not retrieve a bumper. When I began using live and shot birds, she retrieved enthusiastically. However, once her litter is weaned and sold, I will begin the process of force-fetching her.
Sorry for the wordy introduction, but I just really love my Weimys and love to hunt with them.

Tom

Hi Tom & welcome to the forum from a fellow Weimy owner Very Happy

The whole force-fetch thing just isn't up my street, although I know it's pretty standard in the US. There are alternatives which might help your retrieving problems, if you were interested in knowing more? Question Smile

"Thanks for the replies, nice to know there are others with Weimaraners in the world. Here in the US it seems like everyone owns a lab or GSP. Josie I would be interested in some force-fetching alternatives if you would be so kind. I wasn't sure Belle had the right temperment to be force-fetched but I thought it was my only option in order to get her to be a reliable retriever. Anything you have would be helpful.

Thanks,
Tom"

I've split the topic and placed it in the retrieves forum, hope thats OK? Couldn't figure out how to leave a copy here!

Welcome to the board Tom. Weims must outnumber the other breeds.
