Hello,
I have a 15 month old Brittany that I am training for bird hunitng and basic obedience.

I also would love to try and train this dog to search and retrieve antlers. Not sure if that is even possible but I know that labs have been trained for this purpose.
I figure the more I can train him to do the more fun he will get to have.

I love to hunt and fish and the more I can get him to do the more he will be going with me. I knew when I purchased this guy that he was going to need a lot of exercise and I am trying to give him all the avenue's to get it.

James, great - another Brittany convert!

They are really smart dogs - but HPr (little r) by nature - hunting is no problem for them at all so you will need to do very little 'hunting practice' The 'stop' whistle needs to be very high on your list of priorities as should be retrieving practice.

One solution to exercising him is to get another one - they can then play fight to their hearts content, not that it seems to wear them out much - but then neither does walking as far as i can see.

The retrieving is going well. I havent started any whistle commands yet.
So I should train him to stop whatever he is doing on the whistle?

Yeah I take Scout to the farm 2-3 times per week and let him run for hours. He takes about a 30 minute power nap an is up and going again.
Cant seem to wear him out..

They are a small dog in a small world!

You can see the family resemblance.
