Hi
My husband and I have shown a variety of dogs since the late 1980s and have bred sparingly in our two breeds, Dalmatians and then later the Vizslas ( smooth haired). We worked our first breed, Dalmatians as coach dogs with horses and then with the Vizslas we have been very lucky that a NAVHDA group started here in 2003 and I ran our first NA test last year, taking a Prize 11 99/112 with our homebred V at our first tests. We have a FDJ level field title on our Kati too but I sent her to a trainer who trained her and ran her for that. I would not do that again and think that I have the knowledge to train and run a dog at that level myself now.
Two years ago I was lucky to meet some Vizsla ( wire haired) owners who wanted to get into showing and also into NAVHDA. That experience with those dogs has been great too.
I look forward to reading about other hunting and working dog owners experiences. _________________ Blackbullet Dalmatians and Vizslas

Havent had an awful lot to do with Vizlas, I do like the look of the Wirehaired Vizla's apparently they are very biddlable, but can be nervy, is that the case?
We have 6 German Wirehaired Pointers that are worked and shown, Im hoping to have a go at tests and trials for the first time with our home bred bitch who is 7 months.
How did you work your Dallies? Are there competitions for Dallies to run behind a coach?
.
The competitions are called road trials. They can be run with horse and rider or carriage and driver depending upon the course available etc. They include an 'obedience' portion including distractions and then a course of either 12 1/2 miles or 25 miles with vet checks on dog and horse at preset distances. In the US the trials are run with the National and some other state clubs are offering them too. Some Canadians have done them there. Because in Canada the road trials have not become a part of the nationals we just trained as preparation but where not able to attend the trials when we went to the US nationals due to scheduling.
However, it is wonderful watching the horse and dog interaction with many Dals and horses.

Can you say more about this? How do the horses not trample on the dogs when the dogs are running all about them? Or do the dogs only run behind, not in front?
What kind of distractions might be included in the obedience portion?
These dogs must have to be really fit to run that far
Also, are there any titles available for this and if so, what are they? _________________ Slate and Grey
Hi Josie
You might find the DCA web site information on coaching and road trials to be of interest and it will answer you questions as to titles earned, obedience work required etc.
