I'm Marjolein van Eijk, vet tech since 1993 and living in the Netherlands. It's becoming more and more difficult to work your Weim in Holland. Holland is just too small and too many short sighted people who think hunting is cruel.
I have 3 Weimaraners, all longhairs. The oldest one is imported from Germany. B/c the Germans only sell to hunters (unless they can't find hunters to sell their pups to ), we started hunting with her. She does well, she's a true versatile dog and does whatever we ask from her. When she was younger, people said she was a real talent when it comes to fieldwork. Unfortunately, I wasn't, so I blew it big time. She's now used for hunting and I'm trying to get that FT champ back (to no avail so far). She does have and official blood tracking qualification though.
Her daughter is Daantje and I started off differently with her. We did both the German tests (VJP 63 points, 11 for pointing) and HZP (179 points with 11 for pointing and searching). She also has 5 FT qualifications so far, both in youth and open class, all placed. Both girls are Dutch and International show champion as well, but that's not too difficult when there is not much competetion.
I absolutely love working with the dogs and well, once a Weim (LH), always a Weim (LH).
Daan just had a litter, so this spring no FT's for her. We're already looking forward to the autumn though!!!!!
From this litter, one boy is still here. I'd initially sold him to America, but I turned this person down. Just a feeling, that it was not good. So far no one else showed up for him, and if I can't find someone for him, b4 he's 12 weeks old, I'll definately keep him. He'll be worked with as well of course!
What a great initiative this forum is btw!!! I love to talk about my dogs as versatile dogs, instead of couch potatoes (which they can be at times too, hehehe). _________________ www.langhaarweimaraner.nl
Hiya Josie.
Well, tbh, I kept the best boy of the litter, just in case.....
And since there have been quite a few LH litters over the last couple of months...... _________________ www.langhaarweimaraner.nl

Hi Mar
Good luck with the new pup - know what its like - I still have a puppy from the last litter - now 6 months and he wasn't supposed to stay but I was determined he was going to be worked!
Good for you Sally!!!
This is such a difficult task for me. On one hand, I'd love to keep him b/c I think I could get somewhere with him, now I have more knowledge.
I'd hate it, when he ends up as a couch potatoe (although the main thing is that they're good for him obviously).
On the other had, 2 pups at one time, not easy. One more mouth to feed. How can I cope with in season bitches and my Billy boy?
Hmm, only 2 more weeks to go and I don't have to think about it anymore, then he will be mine. _________________ www.langhaarweimaraner.nl
Hi - As someone who doesn't breed, I'm wondering - how much does this happen, that you have a litter and then there are one (or more?) you can't find a suitable home for?
Is it that you both have v high standards of what would be suitable, and you only want a working home which is hard to find? Have you both turned down many unsuitable people? Just curious? _________________ Slate and Grey
Well, this is my third litter and with all the litters, I'd sold them all, before they where even born. But well, this is a different case, b/c I turned this lady down.
If I wouldn't have at least 6 suitable homes, before the girls come in season, I think I wouldn't breed, but wait another six months. _________________ www.langhaarweimaraner.nl
