Hi, I’ve been dipping into the forum for the last few months and have finally found time to get round to joining. I’ve trained and shot over labs for around thirty years, but fifteen years ago I succumbed to the Brittany disease and trained my first Brit using a video starring a contributor to this forum. Over the years I have had fantastic times rough shooting with these little dogs.
At the moment I have a 12year old lab, and 8year old and 1year old Brittany’s. The little one is showing such progress and potential that I’ve joined a gundog training group to help her progress. In a moment of weakness I was persuaded by family and friends to join a ringcraft club – the nearest I’ve ever been to a dog show is watching Crufts on the television. So the pup and I are on a steep learning curve.

Keith

Hi Keith, Nice to meet another labrador and brittany enthusiast on here. I feel sure you will have plenty to contribute!

Good luck with your new Brit.

Are you going to let us in on who the forum member was that starred in this video? Laughing

Many thanks to you all for the greetings - they are much appreciated.

Moving from labs and spaniels to hprs and Brits in particular was a complete culture shock, I thought I had this dog training lark licked, but my brits showed me otherwise. At the time there were very few books, no internet no e-bay and where we lived no one else with working hprs. So I made loads of mistakes, then in the Shooting Times I saw an article about a video about training gsps and sent off for it straight away and virtually wore it out. I cannot tell you how much it restored my sanity and helped me train some wonderful shooting companions. I guess it it is long out of print, (if that is the right term!), which is a pity because IMHO it is still a superb introduction to the basic training of hprs. As to the star - he has mentioned the video briefly in one post - so if you've got an hour or two you should be able to find it!!! - good hunting!

Keith
