Hi Helen,
We do work Ozzie and Megan, Ozzie started showing good hunting skills from
about 18wks, megan tends to follow Ozzies lead. We hunt mostly with Harris Hawks. My husband works for a falconry centre in the Cotswolds so the dogs get plenty of inter-actions with the birds and plenty of good smells up their nose. However it also gets embarrasing when he decides to point flies!!!
I would love to watch a dog working with a hawk. Something to do for the future I think as I'm busy enough as it is without adding something else. Have you any photos?
Unfortunatley we don't have pictures. When we're out hunting it gets diffcult to carry a camera. Mike my husband usually has his bird on his fist and megan, and vice a versa with me. We fly two harris Hawks, a male and female together. I must invest in a decent mobile phone which has got a decent camera. We will be displaying our birds at Malvern Three Counties on the 16,17 and 18 june. One thing we have found with Brittany's is that before they get their head switched on into hunting mode, we have to let them have a mad half an hour. Once they have had this mad spurt of energy they work brill. They are good little workers, not afraid of water or cover of any any description.
Like any true working dog during the summer months they can get very bored. By taking them down to the centre we do manage to keep some fittness in them. I would like to perhaps try some aglity with them, but like yourselve its having the time to fit everything in.
