Hi All

Just joined and saying Hi to you all. Very Happy

With a name like I'm using it's probably obvious I'm a Falconer... and have a Wirehaired Vizsla - 20 months old. Just also got a Border Terrier that's 9 weeks old - had him for a week today.

Will spend some time browsing the topics and hope to be able to have some chat with you.

Welcome to the board. What bird do you have? It is something that I would love to do but it's just finding time.

Welcome to the board, there are a number of people who hunt with birds on the forum. Like Helen I certainly find the idea of hunting with birds facinating but barely have time to train my dog to the gun let alone with birds! I certainly hope at some point to be able to go out and watch some people hunting with birds.

Would love to see some pics of your Viz as well Smile

Hi & welcome to the board Smile We seem to have quite a few people with birds now, soon we'll need a Falconry section on here Smile

Thanks for the welcome Helen, Josie, Mike Very Happy

At present I'm hawking with a male Harris which I bred this year. Time is something of an issue also with work and family committments - oh for a win on the lottery Wink

If there's a growing number of falconers here then some may know me from a couple of the Yahoo falconry groups I'm on.

I'll post some photos at some point Mike

Did you have the hwv before you got the harris or did you decide that was the breed you wanted to work with the harris?

Hi Helen

I've been in Falconry, with different hawks, for about 34 years. In that time I've had some different breeds, mainly GSP but also a Brittany. The HWV is my first one and I can't fault him for "character"... Laughing

I had to have the Brittany put down about 5 years ago and had been looking round for another dog before that as he was getting on a bit. I'd heard quite a bit about the Wirehaired Vizsla via Roy Bebbington's articles in the BFC publications --- although a friend had a smooth at the time the Wire appealed more to me.

Hi Mike

I'm at the "top end" of Somerset - borders of Wiltshire and what used to be called Avon.

Welcome aboard Wirehawker,

I like the HWV, from what I have heard they are a wee bit more biddable than the joyful GWP's that we have, not that I would swap any of them....Well maybe one or two of them Laughing

We also have a border terrier, he is know 7 months old and they maybe small but god they make up for it in character.

Husband would like to get into falconry but like Mike and Helen it really is a time issue, It would be nice for a large lottery win.
