If you read Liesel's report you will know that we have an awol racing pigeon which took up residence in the vicinity a few months ago. Every now and again it gives Liesel a chance to point it and today was one of those days
I know the sight pointing thing isn't ideal but I got some pics

She's lovely Helen, how old is she?
We also have a resident racing pigeon, he/she's been here for nearly 2 weeks! I took Archie out yesterday to introduce himself to it, and with a little help from me he sat to flush

| There is a fair chance that your racing pigeons are young birds that could be easily trained to return to your loft, if you had one, and could catch the buggers in the first place. |

'Ours' is now eating out of our hands, and we've put down some water for it too, so fingers crossed it may hang around! On a moral note, should we try and return it to its owner? I don't know how valuable they are. _________________ Emma |

If it has gone AWOL it's owner would only want it back to ring its neck Once a bird gets disoriented they don't want it because it'll do it again. Whole point of them having them is to win races. If it don't win, it ain't worth feeding - so it goes in the bin! _________________ Aberdon HPR's. Good-looking AND Intelligent.

If you can catch it, check it has a ring - there should be a phone number and a ring number. They owners like to know when a bird goes missing, just say you found it lying in the garden - don't need to say it's still alive _________________ Aberdon HPR's. Good-looking AND Intelligent.

Thanks Emma, she is lovely sometimes! She is 2 1/2 now and pretty steady pointing on the pigeons but the pheasants are requiring more work. I am trying hard to get a few birds shot over her as I think she will realise what the crack is then.
I did try to trap our pigeon a while ago but it wasn't interested. We have a cat so it wouldn't be fair to tame it because the cat would get it if it hung around me. It is in residence very nearby and spends a lot of time in the roadside verge where we planted linseed for decorative purposes, it must like the seed. I can borrow birds from the local gundog club now and have some launchers to use too so I am all set up on the pigeon front but hunting pheasants is taking priority just now.
