Another Gundog Club Refugee!Hi
I recognise a couple of you guys I think from courses run by Helen Phillips a few years ago; also a few others from the Gundog Club.
For those that don't know me, I've got a 5year old solid black GSP that does predominantly rough shooting with a single gun and a 2 year old liver GSP bitch who unfortunately is not the soundest dog in the world and so her role in life is mainly just to look decorative!
Oh...and can anyone explain in words of one syllable how to upload an avatar or to re-size it please? I keep getting a message saying the file must be less that 16 mb! (It's only a bog-standard snap off my digital...honest!)
Cheers

I exported my pic to my desktop and whilst I was doing this I had the option to resize it so I did. I used 90 and then the other figure just dropped in. It then let me import it to this site when I asked.
Sorry it's not very technical but nor am I.

Hi gunner - welcome. If you have probs email it to me and I will sort it out. This forum software doesn't seem to like '&' in a file name - so that may be the cause of your problem. the avatar bit also won't resize an image for you (as it might if you were to post a picture) and it is fairly sniffy about avatar size. from memory it should only be about 80 pixels square and at 72 dpi.

Cheers Guy!
I think we've (sorry YOU've) cracked the avatar!

Depends if you mean lunatic asylum or political asylum Guy!

well if your mental state is questionable (and i assume it might be with an HPR) then your are welcome to seek asylum here.
If you question the actions of politicians then you are also welcome.
I once saw a sticker in the back of a car which read
'thank God we don't get all the government we pay for'

Errr, speak for yourselves you guys! Some of us, Mike, are just quiet, retiring, shy, polite individuals who wouldn't say boo to a goose!
I tell porkies too!

Oh, and to answer your question, the Gundog Club is still going - they just decided to close down the forum part of it as it was allegedly taking up too much of their time.
However, we've now all found this place, so my view is 'their loss, your gain!' (You may beg to differ!!!)

I am still totally baffled as to the other forums closure, but if they insist they can continue and grow without it, then so be it, only time will tell.
Went suddenly after the public "debate" about HPR Field Tests being slow in coming out IMO, I feel there was something in this that caused or prompted the closure.
Still a great site tho.

A rat? Spooks?
No, there was a small conflict between a HPR owner and Admin, and 2 days later the forum closure was announced, was probably just coincidence i guess.
Anyway whats done is done.

It wisnae me ! I wouldn't put Buck in for an H.P.R. test - he wouldn't pass !
I think it has things in it like Downstay. I don't do downstays with any breed of gundog. I don't need it and it may be counterproductive in some situations.
I don't do stays in the normal sense of the word either - yet my dogs don't run in ........usually !
I fully accept that others choose to train downs and stays but I like practical work - and I'm bone lazy too !

Hiya
OK...probably me just being paranoid (is there a paranoid smiley??), but as this discussion has cropped up on my introductory thread can I clarify that I wasn't the HPR owner that had the 'debate' with Pippa about the speed at which the HPR tests were being published ......or not as the case may be!
Having said that I must admit that I do support the sentiments of the individual concerned and indeed if you look at the archive of the forum when it's made available you will see that even last year I was chasing for the release of the HPR grade 2 for almost 12 months - each time being told 'it will be out in a few weeks', 'it's in draft form' or 'you will be the first to know' etc etc. By the time Grade 2 was finally released (I think from memory, in spring this year) I'd lost the will and gone down my own route for training anyway. So, to summarise, I certainly sympathise with the individual who was chasing for Grade 3.
Did this pre-empt the closure of the forum? Who knows ....only Pippa I guess. Anyway, to my mind it's pointless debating now - it's history!
