It just seemed to cover what was shown last night. It looks like the Press is jumping on the band wagon for the sake of their profits.
I agreed with much that was said on that programme but it should not be allowed to degenerate into a witch hunt against ALL pedigree breeds.

It seems that Crufts are still getting hit by the repercussions of this program, not only have they lost the main sponsor I see know the Beeb has pulled the plug ( at least for 2009). No TV coverage is bound to effect `advertising' revenue, it might well be that the KC is about to reap the consequences of their years of complacency ( or will entry fees go up )

LKA seems to cope without the press. - same venue so presumably the same 'showground' overheads, but not the same 'overhead' as the KC

Not as much gate money, not as many dogs or volume of exhibiotrs.

are you suggesting that KC needs auntie beeb to create gate volumes?

It was on the news yesterday that the KC have refused to co-operate with the BBC regarding them [the BBC] not wanting certain breeds at the show....so the KC have told the BBC to get lost. maybe we will be able to move around a little bit easier next year without all that filming paraphenalia about.

Fantastic series of post on Terrierman's blog about BBC, Krufts, the AKC etc. I wish I could meet Terrierman in person. I would buy him a barrel of Guiness and help him drink it.

No, just that because Crufts has greater entries and gate money it can cope with greater overheads. Thus no need for Auntie Beeb - good riddance I say!

Its not so much the Beeb pulling out on its own that could effect gate revenue, but the negative publicity that it brings to the event from the public perspective and how many of the public will not now come because of it Other major shows virtually only cater for exhibitors and are financially geared around that level of attendance, Crufts has in the past attracted a far higher level of general public attendance and has charged a premium for it in trade stands etc geared to the general public rather than the dog world stalwarts. When taken with the economic downturn it could lead to some interesting fiscal results
( I wonder how many other organisations are now going to with draw following this announcement, and there are still three months to go )

I am sure the move by the BBC will hurt the KC. Over on this side of the pond, the AKC is losing a lot of money as people turn away in droves from the "sport" of purebred dogs.
