Brittany ClassesHi everyone
I hope some of the showgoing among you can help.
I am trying to build up a list of Open Shows which regularly schedule classes for Brittanys for our new website. I need the name of the Society, venue, approximate dates, show secretary and a phone number or email address. I asked teh KC if they had such a list and was told it was too much work for them to do it for every breed. So much for that computer
Many thanks

Anne, I've emailed you with my list. Hope this helps.

Anne, does it matter whereabouts the shows are? I will keep a look out in the schedules I have down here

No Lisa, Annie is trying to sort out a reference list for the whole of Britain to keep updated on the Club website so anywhere is appreciated.

Ok, will keep an eye out!

Here's the list as we have it at the moment - so no need to look for schedules for these ones. Thanks in advance for any others. And if any other numerically small breed wants help from us we'll be glad to look out for them too.

Just bumping this up a bit, and also as a result of going to Open Show myself, Allez (Fosscott Alaine over Aberdon ShCM) now has his Show Certificate of Merit. I will now be nagged unmercifully by a number of forum members to go on to try a working certificate of some sort other than his basic puppy one. Be gentle with me.

Well done.
I have realised that you should just enjoy your dogs and do whatever you want to do, without having to feel you have to prove anything to anyone.

I agree, but I have this conviction that HPR's should be dual purpose, so perhaps it's me that will be nagging me more than others. Have proved him in the ring so now have to prove him in the field. So perhaps I will also be nagging other Brittany owners too. I few have proved them already - Ghillie is one on here. There may be others. Thanks for the kind words, ladies.

I like mine to be dual purpose & I have been lucky enough to own 2 full champions but not all dogs can excel at more than 1 discipline. Take my youngster for example, she doesn't like showing but excels working which I am quite happy about & suits me.
Just cos others have done certain disciplines doesn't mean you have to follow why put the added pressure on yourself?

Whilst i tend to agree with you both about doing it for yourself and your dog - however - I thought this was a 'working' dog forum.

Only the USA and the UK seperate looks from ability. Continental breeds abide by the concepts through performance to type where conformation is just as important as ability. Your own Brittany's from Germany have no doubt been graded for conformation coat and type ?

mmmmmmmmmmm better not write my Buchse Baby had RBIS yesterday despite having 7 field trial awards.

PS A Brittany went BIS at Mid Herts yesterday and I do believe it works but then this won't be of interest to working Brit owners will it now!

I was coming from - work your dog and don't feel as though you HAVE to compete. Is a dog that field trials, any better than a dog that is simply "a working dog"?

Now, now. This is a conformation thread within a working gundog forum. If people want admit to showing their dogs there shouldn't be a problem there.
How's Catias list of wins coming along Guy?

We are always interested as we are still a dual purpose breed, any idea of the name of dog and owner ? |

It was Mabeleen (Gill Tully's E Bracken)I think and although I think doesn't work as yet, may be in training I believe.

Langhaar,
congrats on Busche Baby's RBIS.
Catja - yes I took her back to Germany so she could have a grading and am taking her back again next week so she can have it done as an adult. I probably won't put her through German hunting tests though. She has also been under French judges in France.
I think pedigree, conformation and field ability are together the cornerstones. Which is why I like the idea behind the continental system that a dog must hold gradings for work and show before being bred. I am also sufficient of a realist to see that not all dogs can be Champions and not all owners want a working dog.
Congratulations to Gill and Mabeleen going BIS. Gill is a very experienced and time served handler, to get that far is a fair reflection of her/their abilities, I for one study closely how she shows her dog.
