Cesky fousekI quess I am the only Czech here. So providing some information about our national breed will be a honour to me.
Cesky fousek is our national breed. It is a wirehaired pointing type of dog and it has a long history. There are some written records about existence of this breed from 14th century. They have some griffons in them and you can tell just by their looks.
(This picture is probably taken in summer so the dog's coat is not as shaggy as it should be.)
I will write more on the history and the character of the breed soon.

Hi Hana, that is v interesting. I'm interested in the Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer as a possible future dog (!), and I understand it is a third Weim, a third GWP and a third Cesky Fousek. I knew what the first 2 were like, but had no idea what the CF was like at all!!

We have 2 Cesky Fousek in NZ now, both bitches, dam and daughter.
Dam is from Czech Republic, daughter is ex NAVHDA registered dog semen (allowed by NZKC), an adult dog is due in from Czech Republic next year.
Owner is very keen hunter and deer stalker.

Josie,
There is a Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer breeder in Ireland and he has been to Europe to select dogs for his ongoing breeding programme. He told me that originally the SRP breeders wanted the SRP recognised as a Longhaired Weimarnerer but the German KC refused on the say so of the Weim Breed Club.

That'd be wirehaired Weim wouldn't it Des?

The most beautifull dog in the worldOne of the Cesky fouseks became the most beautiful dog in the world at the World Dog Show 2006 in Poland.
As I talked to people from Cesky fousek club I will be able to give you some really valuable information on the breed soon.

Very like a GWP!!!! Beautiful dog!!! How does the World Dog Show operate? I understood that Alex Del Monte Alago, a Bracco Italiano won the World Dog Show in 2006 but here is another one.
Interesting to see the third part of the SRHP!!!!

I know the guy who has the Cesky Fouseks here in NZ and I was surprised when I saw them against my GWP. The Cesky (a similar aged bitch) was considerably bigger and more solid in build than my girl. Her temperament (and he backed this up) is more steady and biddable than your typical "wire", but then I would suggest that my girl is probably on the "wilder" end of the scale!
I was very impressed.

Des, if that was Nicholas, he's Grey's breeder - she came from Ireland. Yes, they originally wanted them to be wirehaired Weims and actually called them that for a while, but then the German Weim club protested and they became their own breed.

Yes, in the photographs they do look bigger than the GSP. They are beautiful dogs. Are there any in the UK? Must do some reading on them. Have to say Im still absolutely in love with the SRHP and its nice to see "part" of their makeup.

Yes there is a Cesky here in the UK as I went to see him and his new owners back in the Summer. In fact I'm still trying to finish an article on the breed for Dog World.
He was brought over by his breeder and they spent a week with the yearling dog in his new home to help him settle in. He was very similar in size and build to the GWP I took with me but they are much shorter bodied than the GWP. They were also very laid back in temperament in comparision to the GWP both in the house and out on a run.

Sharon, where do you think the "laid back" bit of the Ceskys' make up came from ?
