any idea if they are still running the gamekeepers classes???

Last year you didn't need any qualifications to enter the gamekeepers classes just proof that you are a regular member of a shoot. Bonnie entered and it was great fun. Cool
Allyson

Gamekeepers classes always run, but as you do not need to pass any pre qualifying criteria no info is on here.

The Crufts schedules will state what is required for entry into the gamekeeper classes, generally just written documentation that you attend a shoot.
tashap

brilliant... there is a worry with new legislation coming in the gundog classes will no longer be able to be run Sad

Is Stephen Hollings still the judge for the weimaraner?? Can't remember if it was crufts or not...
Allyson

THere is no reason why any proposed new legislation should affect gundog entries. After all, the hunting ban has not stopped Point to Points Wink

Yes Stephen is the judge if I remember correctly.
tashap

I like stephen he's lovely his favorite bitch is bonnies mum muffin Very Happy
Marjolein

It's Stephen definately.
josie

Does that mean that no Gunalt Weims can be entered, as Stephen would have to judge them?

What about dogs sired by a Gunalt sire but carrying the dam's (non-Gunalt) affix?
tashap

mine field again... sure their are rules for this Shocked
Allyson

When Patsy judged Gunalts were noticeable by their absence.

One does not exhibit dogs bred by the judge, any bred by anyone else are ok.
tashap

thats me out then Very Happy Good thing really I only enter gamekeepers classes but be a pity for those whose show careers are more important but I suppose all the big kennels have to take a turn.
josie

Who is the judge of the gamekeepers classes though, Tasha? Is it the same judge as the person who judges the breed classes? Just becaus Stephen is judging the breed classes, might not mean he's judging the gamekeepers - or is he??
tashap

No the judge for the gamekeepers class is usually someone with a broader knowledge of all the hunting dogs the classes run at the same time so they wouldn't choose the same judge. The classes aren't weimaraner specific this year the HPR's class had a good mix in it so you aren't against your own breed but all the HPR breeds.
josie

Just out of interest - how many people were in your class??
tashap

quite alot actually more than I expected its a big class because the BASC advertise it as does NOBs, most of the entrants were keepers for one class and beaters/pickers up in another. I'm qualified as a keeper and act as an underkeeper for a shoot so can enter both the keepers class and the beater and pickers up class for AVHPR. Next year I'll also enter my cocker whose working strain not show.

There are requirements for some of the classes like not having won or been placed in a breed class.
Claire

When Patsy judged she still drew an entry of over 250 dogs which is on par with other judges and their entry will include Gunalts unlike Patsys.

Yes Josie, if your dogs dam or sire is a Gunalt then you can still show under Patsy or Stephen providing someone else bred your dog and its affix is not Gunalt Smile

I'll enter Whistle under Stephen but depending on who the judge is I might just enter Harris in one of the gamekeepers classes. In 2008 I will not be showing any of my dogs in their breed class as it is my breeder who is judging, but it doesn't bother me tbh.

Tasha, is Bonnie's dam Gunalt Gift to Sybaris ?
Alkemist

You beat me to it Claire - I was about to say that you can enter a weim bred from Gunalt stock, as long as not actually bred by them (wasn't sure about the affix). We used a G dog as Jensens dad, and he was owned by someone other than the Holings'. Would have been a little daft to be excluded for that - after all, how far would you go back????

Nina
tashap

no she's a gunalt, Gunalt Sensuous, her dam is stephens favorite muffin - gunalt reputation and her sire is Gunalt Suspense at Caleydene. Sam's been doing her show classes and will handle her but obviously not in the breed ring only in the gundog classes.
Claire

Ah, I asked because Gunalt Gift is also called Muffin Very Happy

Whistle's grand sire is Gunalt Suspense too as he sired Whistle's dad.
tashap

are so we are doggie rellies then Very Happy Is whistle dark in colour?? Bonnie is quite dark although still within the standard and I always wondered where she got her colour from because both her sire and dam seem lighter than she is.

I'm not to worried about the fact that I can't show under the breed group I'm happy her being entered in the gamekeepers classes. There aren't many weimys entered so maybe next year more will take it as an opportunity to still show their dogs at crufts?? Very Happy
Claire

Whistle is actually pale, both her dam and sire are dark as is her litter sister. She is coating at the minute and is looking rather mottled so I can't really tell what colour she might end up being although looking at her pigment suggests she will be on the paler rather than darker side.
