Thanks very much for the pics - they're great ! I particulary liked the pic of the golden cocker in mid leap into the water . Mines do that too but I never seem to have a camera handy !
I really enjoy working my cockers alongside Buck - I think I get the best of both worlds but it doesn't help a lot when trying to teach my cockers to stay within gun range - I've seen HPR 's that don't range as far or as fast !
Mine are mainly used for picking up and they are very good at it - big cock pheasants they just seem to take in their stride. Dax had his first time ever out on game while picking up last Monday. His very first retrieve was a very live pheasant 50 yards out in a loch. His next retrieve was a lightly pricked duck that fell about 80 yards away and was waddling back to a pond. He made both retrieves look easy.
A terrific breed - wish I'd "discovered" them much earlier.
Thanks again for the pics.

Bill, Jan has books for you that unfortunately I couldn't take with me so she is going to post them. My suitcase weighed 19.6 and my hand luggage 10.4 - so they let me on the plane as the total was exactly 30 kgs. I would have had to pay £20 if I'd taken them with me.

When hunting your cockers alongside your GWP are you not worried that the cockers might spoil any points on game?

Annie - thanks , I look forward to receiving Jans books .
.............................................................................................
Charlie my cocker does know exactly what a point from Buck means and he has stolen his points a couple of times. It is a very rare occurrence though . I try to hunt my cockers within 10 to 20 yards of me and they are usually hunted in very dense cover that they cannot see through. Buck usually hunts a long way out from me - in fact I would have great difficulty keeping him in close. If he points I usually have loads of time to get the spaniels into heel as I approach his point. Very often they have been walking at heelfree anyway as he is being hunted.
I warn the two bogrolls (things that are soft and easy to pick up - cocker spaniels ! ) that if they move in front of me I will marmalize their asses. This usually acts as a deterrent to them stealing Bucks points.
About 2 or 3 times though ,if I think Buck has been a bit slow to move in to flush when commanded, I have told the cockers they were now free to leave my heel.......... In they go like bloomin rockets to flush the bird and Buck learns to get his skates on when I tell him to "Get in !" He is usually much faster to respond on the next occasion that I tell him to flush !
Very little game gets away or stays hidden from an H.P.R. accompanied by a decent spaniel pack .
