Game senseHaving been on many shoots and trials in the last few years i find it more and more frustrated that many guns and dog handlers don't now how to work the wind and wind direction ,and also don't think like a Pheasant or other game bird .
I feel that more handlers ,guns should go out with a keeper or shoot owner without gun or dog so there is no temptation to pull the trigger or run your dog and try to get a feel for the wind and wind direction and where a bird might want to hide ,So when you go out and work your dogs you have half or more of a chance of being more successful in locating and filling your bag (game) . I think so many people think they can go out and shoot or work s dog with no back ground Knowledge and i think that's when things can go wrong . Like gun safety and so on

No argument here, Although I find that `field craft' is a life long journey, so I am still learning ( with a little help from my dogs )

game senseI couldn't agree more Peter, game sense in man or dog is not something you can come by ina day. It is something you spend a lifetime accumulating and then just when you think you've got it pretty well sussed you find you need a 4 wheel drive zimmer to cover the ground with !!
