Hello and WElcome Millet,
I have 3 gwp's an 11 month old pup in taining and who has just started to do working tests, a 3 year old who has just done her full year picking up and a 11.5 year old who is retired.
You should be able to find plenty of people on here who's brains you can pick

Hi there
We've had Wirehairs for over 30 years now (i'm not quite that ancient though ) Primarily we showed them but now do work them extensively as well. I have also worked some of ours with Gos/Harris belonging to a good friend of mine so I have had some experience of doing this.
Feel free to ask away and between us all I'm sure someone will have the answer.
Regards

I made it here of the link you sent me matey.. ..im wanting a pup ASAP realy so i can start all the basic training this season and while i still have my old dog the pup could mooch around with him and pick a few tip's up.. ..
Ill have a big female out on the lawn this season aswell so i would like a new dog around then so the bird will be used to the dog while im manning it..

Thanks Annie
Not sure if Plover still has puppies for sale as they may be much closer to "Millet" and they are sure from proven working lines

Thank's for the replies lad's/lasses.. .. i dont know anything about working line's or which is good or bad..so if anyone can enlighten me thank's in advance..
As for sex im not too bothered dog or bitch but if i get a bitch it will be spayed as i dont want the hassle with my other dog's in the house plus it reduces the risk of mammory tumours and other womb infection's..
The kind of dog that is needed by me is from good strong working lines with a docked tail and dew clawed..

Out of interest none of my wires and ive had 6 have ever had there dew claws done but they are all docked.
What part of the country are you in There was a working bred litter in Devon but not sure if there are any left I can enquire for you or pass on details if you would like.
The GWP Club runs a pyppy list they have a web site you can look on for details, the only thing I would say is go for a pup from proven working lines.

Fair comment on the dew claw's ive had running dog's for a lot of year's and they have a habit of breaking them through turning at high speed's when in pursuit of game..the only dog i had with dew claw's ended up breaking them both when running a hare when it was legal..so it just stick's in my mind about the dew claw's.
Im just learning about the GWP at the moment so im not sure how fast or slow they work and your input aswell as other's is much appreciated..
I'm in the north east of england and i will travel anywhere in the country for the right dog but i may have something sorted out.
Thank's

There is a 10 month dog in resuce but he has a tail.
It would be worthwhile having a chat with benb on here as he also has lurchers, terriers and a wirehair.

Morning!
Nice to have another speed merchant on board!
I don't have my own BOPs - not enough time unfortunately.
A good point of contact might well be Emma Gooden at the English School of Falconry - http://www.shuttleworth.org/birdofprey_home.asp
She runs wires and is not just into the falconry.
"Im just learning about the GWP at the moment so im not sure how fast or slow they work and your input aswell as other's is much appreciated.."
Try and get out to one of the GSPCA grouse pointing days this summer - there are some in your neck of the woods - there are bound to be some wires running and you can see their pace and range.
in terms of pups - i would recommend you do some research as some of the sharper lines may prove tricky to get calm enough to go hawking with.
hope that helps?

Thank's for that BenB any info is very helpfull.. ..
Countrygirl..i personaly wont take a pup on older than 12wk's as they dont seem to bond with you as much when they are older..i have took older dog's on in the past but they have had to go for that reason..
