Grey the boy slovak's brother is really ill

Not sure if I've mentioned it before, But my Grey's littermate, Gunner is seriously ill with a mystery pain condition. The anti-inflammatory has now stopped working and he's in the vets unable to go home and is on morphine. It seems to be a problem with pain in his neck and shoulder and he's had it since he was 9 months old.

I've spoken to loads of people and it seems to remain a mystery. It has been suggested that pain can be related to previous GI infections like campylobacter, salmonella, giardia etc. In humans this is reactive arthritis known as Reiters Syndrome. I heard of young slovaks having some pain issues. Not many of them but when they had it, severe. Gunner's vet thinks it might be something to do with the vertebrae.

It's so sad as he's in such a bad way for such a young dog.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Could it be Steroid Responsive Menengitis ? With this they show extreme pain in the neck and forelimbs.

thats what I was thinking they'd need an MRI and a few other tests to confirm it though.

A spinal tap would rule in/rule out meningitis immediately and is one of the quickest and most accurate methods IME.  I sincerely hope whatever it is that the young lad can be treated  Sad

Hope he picks up soon Lou.

I've just realised I started another thread on this in the 'other' section. Gunner is doing much better and has been diagnosed with discospondylitis. He's on anti-biotics.
