having a go.There has been some talk on the forum around having / not having a go at FT. So just a few words about our recent efforts in the hope it will inspire a few others to give it a try.
We are or rather were FT virgins, but have now run our first. The initial thing to point out that although there is a clique of people who have run regularly there is also a group who haven't. And all are very friendly towards you.
Our route to a trial went was preceded by a couple of shot over days - some pics here http://epagneulbreton.org.uk/hprforum/came/index.htm these i would recommend attending as they are run along the lines of an Ft but without the stress and also with a lot of 'feedback from the trainer /judge.
Bear in mind how much the dog will 'hot up' on the day. I think it is something to do with the adrenalin, not only their own but that in the air from the other dogs.
I thought I had the 'stop' pretty well set in - but no. So am working on that one now.
Beware - once you have had a go you will be perusing the FT schedules for another go!!
PS - we did not get placed but we did get the 'guns award'. We were put out for 'pilot error', Topaz showed me things I didn't know he knew

Well done - Good for you Guy !!!
I am going to attend my first ever field trial a week on Wednesday to see what all the fuss is about I am looking forward to the day and hope to learn by watching other handlers and their dogs on the day. A case of eyes and ears open - mouth firmly shut !!!!!
Are you entered in Craigs Castle ? I am not sure if it is your Brittany but I seem to recall that there is one running on the day.

No, Barry. The Brittany running is Flash - my dog that I gave to my friends Pamela and Simon on loan while I was building my house - he and they got to be real pals so I tr0nasferred ownership to them last year. He is 8 now, and is a REAL shooting dog - and fishing dog too. He has 3 RCCs as well!

No, it wasn't us! We are going to make our debut in the next few months, I need to sit down with all the dates and figure things out.

The picture of the gathered up galloping Weim is Mike's Harley. The GWP is Teasel - BenB's. The Munstie - Munstyman's . The other Weim - Christine Carpenter.
judge / trainer Steve Chant.
It was a very good day out. the whole party, handlers, guns and their friends got on really well. Everyone talked to everyone; which says a lot.

I am hoping to be able to have a go when the demonic one is old enough, loads of work to do before then and all pipe dreams at the mo but hey, if you don't try you'll never know .
