Heel position while deer stalkingDeer stalking is a lonely occupation and I have never actually seen another deer stalker stalking with an HPR. So a question to the other stalkers - do you let your dogs drift around you while you are stalking or do they stay glued to your leg?
Pictures I have seen mostly imply that there is some distance been stalker and dog but if I let Tiney do that she would start creeping ahead and not notice when I stop
Cheers

two meters in front i'm happy with, any closer in our bush and you will be tripping over each other, the main thing is to get the dog used to the fact he is still working not just out for a walk.

My mate has a GWP and it ranges within sight in the bush. Sometimes it mighht get a bit far but she doesnt get out of sight and bugger off she will come back to him.

thanks thats interesting to know...now you mention it, it is an advantage to have a bit of distance when stalking through vegetation. Most of my "stalking" is from high seats, and access is down open rides. Sometimes though I get to wander about in sedge grass trying not to trip over muntjac - they sit pretty tight!
