HelloHello I am Fergus. I am new on here!! I have a 7 month old GSP bitch. I want to train her up so she can go rough shooting with me. We take her to general obedience classes once a week but have not started any 'field' training. We put the capital 'N' in 'Novice' but we are both keen to learn. I really need a starting point - i would love to take her to clasees if they weren't to far away ( we live in the city so know we may have to travel a bit). Any advice would be fantastic. I have only shot about 2 or 3 times before but the attraction of getting out there with my dog and doing what she was bred to do is just too much. I know she would love it and i would get so much from it too.
So can anyone out there help us get the ball rolling???
Many thanks

Hi Fergus - me too! Clackmannan shire - just moved here 7 weeks ago from the Frozen North with my Brittanys. I'm going to go to the GSPC Argaty(Doune) training sessions with my young dog Allez - once a month starting Sunday 13th July. Is a town in East Central Scotland, Stirling, by any chance? Presumably you've already joined the GSPC, so you could go to these meetings too. I'm also taking a few private lessons. You could also register your pup with the The Gundog Club - they do training courses with a test at the end of it for £120,(Leven and Biggar) registration for pups is £7.50 online, and they have lots of books and info on there too.

Hi Fergus.
If I am honest, I wouldn't go with the Gundog Club, (I maybe speaking out of term here) but they don't seem keyed up for HPR's more the spaniels and labs. Though I suppose the more that join, the more it may get keyed up for them, I am only going by there web site.
Then again, in the gundog side of things I am totally green to it also.
Hope to meet some of you at the GSPC on the 13th also.

I have heard that The Gun Dog Club are not totally with it as far as HPR is concerned and therefore I need to find a trainer who has exp of HPR and even GSP.

Welcome! I'm not far from you, just down the coast in East Lothian. As you are in Edinburgh you are not too far from Tom Brechney (Broxburn) or Andy Cullen (Dunblane). Both are experienced HPR trainers who offer 1-2-1 tuition. Tom's main breed is GSP.

Hi Fergus. Try reading Sako's diary - Millie's Weimaraner diary - in the Training section. You will have to go back a bit but he dealt with a lot of rough shooting type issues on there.
