HelloHello all, new to the forum, im from caithness and have owned and trained various gundogs and working dogs, in the past i have owned a GSP used on grouse moors (walked up) and i would like to get another one.
What i am looking for is advice on what lines to go for, ideally i would want something capable of trialing as this is something i would like to do in the future, i am in no rush to get a pup and dont mind waiting for the right one, but it must be out of something that has been proven in the field, if anyone knows of any litters now or in the future id be greatfull.
Have also looked at importing, any thoughts on this? is there any pros/cons/need?
thanks CH

Hi C.H. At present I don't know of any litters that would suit you. I will keep my ears open and let you know of any that I would think of taking a puppy from. Scotland has some good G.S.P.'s but their owners are often so busy working them that they don't often get around to breeding from them !
I have been to Caithness area a couple of times and I have a good idea of the size of the grouse moors - so I assume you are wanting a dog that can run a bit ???
Welcome to the forum.

Hi bill thanks for that, i should have added i dont mind travelling to england for the right dog, when you live in caithness, everything is far away
Yes the moors are big up here, so a bit of wind in the tank would be usefull

There is a good litter at the moment out of a FT CH bitch owned by A Panel Peter Bakewell. We have used a Sigourney stud dog in the past. If you are looking for a genuine PROVEN working GSP ( he's made up 2 Ft Ch's if not more) I would recommend his line.My friend who is a trialling B Panel judge has just bought one from this litter.
Hope this helps and welcome to the forum.Have been on the Dunbeath Castle Estate with my pointer some years ago, loved it but hated the midges!

Welcome Wil
Would second Brenda's recommendation on this litter as they are proven working lines.
As for the litter of wirehairs - being curious - what arrangement of colours were there ?

i can post a picture if you like? the reason they are non KC is that there is some GSP back in the line, they were bred for the estates own use and any surplus has been offered for a very low price.
there were solid livers and solid black as well as b/w and L/W.

Welcome to the Forum - I thought I was the furthest North, but the Black Isle is only 1/2 up scotland compared to yourself.
I will PM you with a contact for a quality GSP, mating only at planning stage, so if your not in a hurry.
Should you ever be dragged to Inverness on a weekend shopping trip, and it happens to be the first Sunday in the Month, you'd be more than welcome at the Highland GSP Club Training session, held just outside Nairn at Culbin Forest - If you are interested e-mail me and I can give you further details.

Oh yes please - I think we all like to look at puppy pictures
Interesting to know about them - it's like the number of wirehair to Lab breeding that's done in Scotland because they are deemed to produce the best of both worlds

Thanks for sending these - so different in colours and type. I wonder how many of those that look smooth may go on and develop some wire coat?

To my untrained eye it looks like a litter of GSP & GWP. Are they all GWPs then?

no the mother has GSP in her, how much i dont know, but she looks like a broken coated gsp if that makes sense?
the sire and dam both are good dogs, and do the job asked of them, on the grouse and pheasant shoots and trail deer, the keeper bred to keep a few back as he is pleased with how the parents work.
