Hello

Hi All,
Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi. Rufus, my 9 month old Korthals, are just about to do our Gundog Club grade one test. Has anyone done this?
Tell me about your experience.

Hi
Welcome to the forum, don't know about the test except i think it is basic control of your dog, more interested in the Korthals, how is it going, bright . stuborn ? any pics.

Korthals

He's a little star! Training has been going pretty well, he is bright and intelligent and picks things up very quickly. He's got a lovely temperament and is pretty steady even at this age. Definitely Hunt, then Point then Retrieve, his retrieving is proving to be one of the hardest areas, Not  stubboness, but he still wants to play, although he has improved over the past month. From what I've heard they do mature a bit more slowly than other HPR breeds, although he is the youngest in the training group which includes 3 GSP's, a Visla and a Wirehaired Vis he is in no way behind.
I'll post some pics as soon as I work out how to do it !

It sound s like you are putting the time in, don't be put off by a slow maturing dog i have Brittanys and they take a while to fully focus and become a full HPR. I found its easier long term not to push to hard they are still young in the head, be consistant and keep it fun, that way the journey is more pleasurable for both you and the dog,it works for me.

Ah Ha! Pictures not so difficult. Most of my pics are of Roo as a pup so I'll try and get some more now he's more grown up. The biggest problem is that digital cameras are slow and he isn't!

He looks lovely - can't wait to hear more about him as he grows up  Very Happy

Hi & welcome
                   good luck with your grade's
Warwick

Rufus passed his grade one with merit! It turned out to be a bit of an epic day. I turned up a bit early to have a bit of a run about and met up with a chap with a GSP who had the same idea, anyway while they were having a play together Rufus took a tumble and let out some pitiful yelps and we limped back to the car and I thought it was going to be an early bath for the young pup.  Anyway, we were able to go last although he still didn't want to put much weight on it, but we managed to do the tests in good style only being a bit disappointing on his stay, which he is usually very good at. I was quite concerned about him as he didn't show much improvement by the evening but he was fine by the following day.

Tried posting a pic of Warwick's Korthal but got a message saying it had expired from the gallery.

I'll try resizing and posting again tonight.

Worked this time with the size reduced by half
