She has two Bracco bitches and the obligatory work bred cocker.

Hey Bill

The name's Annie!!!  I'm not offended though that sort of thing comes with age.  I do it myself!!!  LOL

Moved to Fife now and forgot my original login so had to start a new account.  How are you and those beautiful dogs?  How's your little cocker coming along?  What a sweetie!!!!

Hi Taz, welcome to the forum.

Yes, I have 2 bracchi bitches.  Ruby who is a chestnut and almost 5 and Stella who is orange roan and two and a half.  My wee cocker is 6 now and I can't believe he's that old!!!  I couldnt handle 2 bracco puppies!!!!  You have your work cut out for you!!!  LOL

Are you going to the Bracco Italiano Spring Pointing Test in Lauder, Scottish Borders?  I'm taking my 2 along.  Ruby will probably do quite well but Stella Bella is another story!!!

Hi annie,

you'll have to excuse Bill, its his age you know !!

Nice to know there's a fellow( whats the femenine of that ? Embarassed ) Bracco nut on here, my two bitches are Orange Roans and now 8 months old and driving us daft  Laughing
My wife shows "her" pup and i'm well into training "my" bitch with the intention of working her when she's ready.

Hi again

Yes, very much a Bracco enthusiast.  Are your dogs Bev's breeding?  They look very like Blossom and I know Sienna's (blossom's mum) sister.  At one point I was going to adopt her but I felt as she was 3 at the time it would be too much for her to enter a 4 dog household so opted for the pup instead!!!!

Ruby is a fabulous hunter but I have never mastered the art of getting her to sit at a distance.  She will sit at a certain distance but when she is outwith that range then she just stands.  It doesnt bother me too much though as long as she stops on command.

They're not the easiest of breeds to train because they tend to be more scent oriented that the other HPR's.  When I first took Ruby out to train her with a friend of mine she would run after the dummy and just stand by it.  We ended up throwing the dummy between us to try and get her interested.  When we looked round she was about 100 yards up the field on a scent trail.  They are great stalking dogs Im led to believe.  A guy in Carlisle uses his male for stalking and says its the best dog he's ever had.

There is a Bracco breed specific forum here too.  As I said earlier I lost my password and forgot my username (dah!!!!) so havent been on for a while.  You'll recognise me at the pointing test.  I'm the one whose dogs are just about as tall as she is!!!!

I'll look forward to seeing you then but we will chat on the forum before then.  Its nice to have another Bracco person here.  The breed is becoming more popular now so hopefully more will be worked.  At the moment there are very few that are worked properly (mine included!) as most people tend to show them.  I don't show now but did for a little while.  I couldnt stand the politics but I'm sure its the same in any dog sport!!!

Kind regards
Annie

I wouldnt mind Bill forgetting my name but we spent a lovely morning chatting and training the dogs.  Well, he trained Buck and I watched!!!  Don't often give strange men the hospitality of coffee and biccies at my house!!!  LOL

Hi Annie, it's because I'm "safe" nowadays ! Crying or Very sad   A lady friend told me last year that I am considered "safe." What a terrible thing thing to say to a man ! I was deeply offended ! Mad  Laughing  Laughing

Glad you're still on the go. Didn't know you'd moved to Fife. What part - East Neuk or closer ?

I 've still got your books !  I hope to attend the Bracco test at Lauder. I know the ground fairly well. I often used to work my Brittany down there and I helped take a couple of training seminars down there too. I'm not at all sure I could manage the hills now but I'm prepared to give it a shot.
Anyway if I can get there I'll bring your books with me - memory permitting ! Embarassed

You will be pleased to hear that I am now an expert on Ringcraft having attended a class with Buck who has grown into an imposing but still utterly bammy dog ! Laughing I will be entering a show with him once I am happy about my ability to trot around a ring with him and do that ghastly "stacking" thing. I.M.O. it is a poor judge who cannot see what a dog looks like without that being done !

Wee Charlie the cocker is terrific ! He has been here on Earth before ! The only thing he finds it hard to do is to sit on his bottom for more than about 3 seconds ! He has a very bad dose of "the cocker creep !" It drives me up the wall but it makes me laugh too ! Charlie is the living proof of nature being better than nurture for my nurture has been rotten but he is still very capable of doing any of the gundoggy things - he even points but I am busy trying to detrain that.

Buck and Charlie get on very well - as long as Buck remembers that wee Charlie is the boss ! Laughing  They make a very effective hunting team and I have been working them all season as my picking up team - it has been one of the best seasons I have ever had.

I look forward to seeing you again - you too Taz - at the Lauder test if you manage to come.

Hiya

Nice to hear from you Bill.  It would be great if you managed down to the pointing test.  One of my friends is running it.  Last year it was a great success.  I'm looking forward to seeing al the Bracchi working - but not looking forward to my 2 showing me up though!!!  I have been doing a lot of work with them both and they've come on in leaps and bounds, although Stella is still as dippy as ever!!!

I've moved to Torryburn, which is next to Culross in West Fife.  Just over the bridge.  I bought a beautiful little cottage right on the front.  We literally just fall out the door and over the road and we're at the sea - well the Forth!!!  Its lovely.  Lots of walks around for the dogs but have to say I've had a bit of a hard time getting a local shoot.  All the shoots around here are commercial so its difficult to get in.  I'd also be scared that my two Bracchi showed me up.  Wee Jack is perfect though.  I worked him all last season beating.  He is such a great wee flushing dog but the retrieve to hand is terrible.  As you know the cocker is called "the undertaker" because he will try and bury everything.  Well, Jack has definitely got those traits.  Great at flushing and hunting but if he retrieves anything he's off.  He really showed me up last year when a springer dropped a huge cock pheasant at the feet of his owner.  Jack ran in (well he was the one that flushed it!!! Laughing ) picked it up and hot footed it over 3 fields and into the woods to bury it.  I was so embarrassed!  Embarassed  Glad to say he did retrieve it again but the guys were helpless!!!!

I'd love to get another working cocker.  Its like you say - they have been here before.  Everybody comments on how steady Jack is for a cocker.  I have no trouble getting him to sit and wait.  In fact he would just sit and look at me all day!!!  I wish more men would do that!!!  Laughing

Take care
Annie

yes annie, both are out of Bev's Blossom, and Rossi (my bitch) is very like her mum both in build and looks.
We got Rossi first, then took Hetti 3 weeks later after Bev was let down. Out of the 12 pups, I know that a guy up in Yorkshire is working his bitch, Bracken, and two of the other bitches are doing extremely well in the show ring, both having already qualified for next years Crufts. Hetti has had a 1st,2nd and 3rd at Open shows to date, we should have been at Stafford last weekend for the Manchester Champ show, but my missus was ill so couldnt attend. Two dogs from the litter also came to Manchester but have not heard what they or the other pups are doing.

Looking forward to Lauder, i am enthralled watching the Bracchi work, they cover ground so beautifully, it will also be an opportunity to meet Mr Windem Bang !!  Very Happy

Yeh, Im really looking forward to Lauder.  It will be a good day.  It'll be even better if Bill goes.  He can keep you mesmerised for hours with his stories!!!  Hope he can make it!

Don't think your wife missed much at Manchester last week.  As far as I can gather it was a judge who has collies and didnt know the Bracco!!! My Stella qualified for crufts first day out last year.  I'm not taking her though.  She doesnt travel well in the car and its a very long journey for me.  I'm just going to go down and meet up with friends there to watch the judging.  And of course spend enormous amounts of money round the trade stands.  Well, I have to bring the dogs back some pressies as I will have left them for the day!!!!

Best get your entry forms in soon for the pointing test.  I'm sending mine off tomorrow just to make sure.

Take care
Annie
