Hi from an HPR pet owner

Hello everyone

My name is Philippa Robinson and I live in northumberland with my other half and my dog Ferdy. I won't lie to any of you - Ferdy is "just a pet" and yes I do realise that this is a forum for people with "working" interests however it is also a goldmine of great information for those interested in hprs at any level. The other thing I need to admit to right up front is that Ferdy is a gwp/weimaraner cross Embarassed  So have I alienated two hpr communities already? I hope not as that still means he is 100% hpr!

If you are a gwp person you may already know that we used to have a wonderful gwp but sadly lost him aged just 4 and a teeny bit. I am a member of the GWP club and am on the health sub committee as canine health and genetics have become a huge interest of mine. Being amongst gwp people for the past six years has helped me to develop a thick skin so I can take a good challenge or two especially about keeping hprs as pets.

Ferdy is now 17months old and we are now thinking of getting a "brother" for him. I have been lurking on the board for a while and have followed many of the very interesting threads. I love attending all sorts of dog events but have to say that the two gundog training sessions we did get our gwp too were the most humiliating afternoons of my dog owning career so far and I prefer to draw a veil.....

Hi Philppa.  although many on here work their dogs I'm sure anyone who is mad enough to have any HPR will be made more than welcome

Phillipa - you have a warm welcome from me.

I hope you will keep writing - humiliating days and high days.  I also firmly believe you learn more by getting it wrong and working out why that always getting it right and not understanding.

i for one would love to see apic or two of Ferdy - not his / her fault who the parents are.

gidday and welcome.

Welcome to the board.

Humilation/dogs - go hand in hand LOL.  I've had my fair share over the years. The most recent was taking Teal to a trainer.  Told said trainer that she was stopping on the whistle, walking to heel (which she was!).  Let her off lead, she buggered off and I couldn't get her back LOL!

Hi and welcome Phillipa! Very Happy   I would love to see a pic of Ferdy too!!

Hi Phillipa and welcome from me and my gang - who are all pets before anything else!
BritAnnie

And welcome from me too - my 3 Brits and GWP girl are all pets too.  Two girls live in the kennel but they still get as much attention as the boy and girl in the house.  I have never worked a dog, my late partner did a number of years ago, but I'm training my young dog just now with Bill's very welcome assistance.

Welcome Philippa - good to have you 'onboard'

Hi Phillippa, don't be ashamed of having an HPR as a pet.  Most Kiwis out here in the countryside think we are bonkers/unhygenic having a big dog indoors so you are not alone!

I am English by the way.

Kiwi, you don't like washing machines unless they open from the top either!! (I think I am qualified to be cheeky about NZer's as we lived there for 3 years)  Smile

Sorry forgot to say "hello Phillippa!!" We have a Longhair that lives as a pet but pretends to be doing working stuff!!

Hello Philippa

Glad you have come out of "lurkdom"  Very Happy

As you can see I think good days and bad days are just the norm with owning HPR's  Smile

Thank you so much for the great welcome.

I have struggled to upload any pictures of Ferdy. This has led to a dilemma as to whether or not to reveal my website dedicated to him. The dilemma being I am quite opinionated about certain aspects fo dogs.

Oh what the hell. You can all let me know what you think thus pictures of Ferdy can be found on www.ourdogferdy.com

Please bear in mind it is a  Wink type of website - though members of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel club may wish to disagree with that.
Cheers

I think that website is great and made me chuckle Very Happy  I love the Breed Standard. It is an honest & frank website & one I'd keep up with.

Hi Phillippa and Ferdy, I love the site btw.

Love the site and blog -

If you ever get fed up with Ferdy he can have a home with us Smile

By the way how are the knitted GWP's going?  'johnhod on here is always looking for fundraising ideas.  I find it hard to imagine him with knitting needles - but imagine the scene - Brittany owners knitting whilst the tumbrils roll by and Mme G does her stuff  Smile

Love the website Phillippa!

Kiwi, that must make Liesel related to a washing machine because she lives in the laundry too....?

Helen S
kiwi

she sleeps in the kitchen or the washhouse?
i don't know where ya keep ya fisher and paykel  Very Happy
Helen S

Liesel sleeps with the Fisher & Paykel (top load washing machine) in the laundry/boot room/washhouse/mud room/whatever you like to call it!  I haven't managed to train her to operate the F&P yet though she does retrieve lost socks.
