HiI'm saying Hi
Just joined the forum, thanks to Bill T pointing me here.
I am the owner of two retired HPR's, GSP 12yrs old and I Spinone 10yrs old...........so thought I may as well get myself a new trainee.
GWP pup 10weeks tomorrow, so will be reading lots of the previous posts and asking lots of questions.
I will be training her up to shoot with on our small rough walked up shoot and maybe some trialling, if poss.
Anyone got any immediate advice please.................and no I can't take her back???
Thanks

Well, that's plan one out of the window
Seriously though, good luck and please keep us posted with your progress

Probably the one thing I have learned is that I didn't put the 'stop and look at me' in early enough. But if you have two HPRs already you will know that!

Welcome to the board from another gwp owner and in the next county up. Where did you get your pup from? "Countrygirl" has just got a wirey pup - same litter? She's posted pics.

Bindi is from the Mustwork kennel, near Aberystwyth..............a Welsh GWP!!
If you can remind me how to post photos I will have a go.

Hi Caz
We shall have to swap notes on training then.
Bindi is recalling OK in the house and down our long hall way, but outside in courtyard with some distractions she doesn't want to know.
She is heeling on lead and off lead, again in hall way. On lead in courtyard is OK, but not off.
She does sit really well in most situ's.
Not sure if I am pushing/expecting too much at such an early age?
Are you training already??
Going for last jab today, so the world will open up.
Regards

Hi Wombat and Welcome to the site Yes, piccies please!!
You mentioning your hallway made me laugh as it was exactly the training ground we started at when I started off training my Blu!! Those were the good old days!!
Keep up the good work and look forward to hearing how you are getting on. Great name for pup by the way!

Hi Lisa
Thanks.
I am a great lover of Curry, her name was going to be Bringal (Aubergine), but it was a bit of a mouthfull. So became Bindi, as in Bhindi Bhajee, Ochre/Ladys fingers.
Love the name Blu, considered it, but a bit masculine!

Glad you said it was too masculine!! As my Blu is a boy!

Hi Wombat,
WE only picked Wookie up on Thursday and she had her first jab on Friday so another couple of weeks before she can go out in the big wild world.
So far she is ok on lead in garden and doing a good puppy recall. She had a trip to tesco express tonight in the car to get used to it. She had loads of toys and seems a very keen retriver infact she has quite surprised me the distance she has marked things on the lawn thrown for the other dogs.
I will try and attatch a video but am not sure if it will work.

Wookie looks very similar to Bindi in markings.
Great retrieve!

LOL you won't see this one working either. I got her as a rescue at the age of 5 and she could do NOWT. She can at least do some nice retrieves to hand now and this year we got her swimming and retrieving cold game. We just play at it

Well I said it with a French accent and it sounded nice.
Are you calling me an old NAG Bill

Well I said it with a Scottish accent and it sounded like an auld horse or cuddy !
Which puts me in mind of a famous poem by a famous Scot - here goes.
..... "The cuddy rins amang the braes
and poos amang the neeburs claes,
the neeburs chase wi' muckle stoor,
but the mar they chase ,the mar he poos - the hoor !!!"
The original poem used a different word to poos but I am trying to be polite.

Bill! I thought you would be saying it in a french accent as well - shame on you :-p
Think we need a translation for all those who don't speak scottish lol

"The horse runs around the backyards
and sh - ts among the neighbours clothes,
the neighbours chase with a lot of anxst,
but the more they chase , the more he sh- -s - the proddy!!!"
Loses something in the translation, I think .............

I have a differing translation to Annies
Washing used to be laid out on grassy slopes to dry in the sun. A "brae" in Scotland is a hillslope. An uphill road can be a brae too, it just means a slope or hill. As in - "By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes etc.etc. tra- la -la !"
So the horse was running wild among the laid out clean washing of the "neeburs" That would be the folk from a village or small part of a town.
It poos is translated very well by Annie to "it sh*ts . Amang is among . Claes is clothes . "Muckle" means a lot of and stoor is dust raised by sweeping in a house or similar or in this case by the neeburs feet as they try to catch the horse that is sh*!!*ng all over their nice newly cleaned washing ! ...... "the mar" is simply "the more."
I heard this poem when I was a wee boy and though I have forgotten many an excellent poem I have always remembered this one !
I was told it was one of Rabbie Burns lesser known ones dealing with the lives of ordinary people. He also did some rather naughty poems that never seem to see the light of day - or so I was told - I am far too morally upright and prudish a person to even listen to such poetry.

P.S. ----- "The hoor" should not really apply to a male horse for a "hoor" is Scottish for a whore .
