Well it's a good thing I'm not a vet, I can't see any difference in them Laughing Laughing
Claire

How do you take photos of xrays ?

Wondering cos I have had a hip resurfacing op (on me not my dog Wink ) and I'd quite fancy taking a photo of my x-ray as a few people have asked to see it out of interest.
josie

I just turned my desk light on, Claire, and then held the x-ray up to it so it lit up behind the x-ray, and then took a photo of that. I'll email you it because then you'll see my hand holding it and the light etc....

Just had a look at the different plates - very interesting so thanks for posting the link. I have an interest in hips mainly because of my own hip problem which I've had for years. Wish I still had my plates that were taken prior to my op because then I could show you some real HD and odd looking hips Laughing My left one was very bad indeed and my right one was and is near perfect. The difference could be seen immediately. OK I'm not a dog but the same principles apply with the joint.

What is interesting about looking at these plates though is the way the legs have been positioned by the different vets. The majority of the legs have been placed vertical and very straight which is how I always thought they should be placed and yet on the weim plate you can see that one leg is very much at an angle. I wonder why this is ? I'm not picking or anything, I'm just wondering why the differences Confused Obviously it doesn't matter because the score is excellent Smile

You can use a photographic light box, it will do the least damage to the plates any digital camera then will take a good photo, don't scan them though because that can cause damage.

I have some of a variety of hip scores in the higher ranges but I will need to ask the owners of those scores before I can send them to you. You are welcome to my dogs plates but they are within the 4/4 range.

Do you have an explanation of how they get the scores? That might be useful for people looking some of the scores are a difference in millimetres others are more dramatic. You coudl also look at those with injuries vs those with health problems.

The Weim plate is Slate's, and I see what you mean about the leg being positioned at a slight angle. She was sedated but I don't think the sedation had reached maximum effect when we went in to have it taken (ie after we came out she seemed to me to get much dopier than when we went in), and it was a bit of a struggle with her, to get her on her back. The legs are made that straight by being pulled down, as straight as possible. Perhaps the Viz plates were taken under GA or deeper sedation and they weren't struggling so much?

Having said that, this was the 1st and only plate they took, and I know she does take more plates if she's not happy with the first one, so she must have been happy with it. She told us it would be a good score before we left, and sure enough she was right, thank goodness Very Happy

some of the viz plates are mine all taken under GA and the rest i am pretty sure were as well as I know the owners Very Happy
I am placing a link back to my website where a full explanation of the results ect can be found.

I scanned my x-rays in or photographed the blue tacked to the pc screen

I have a friend I can ask whose got a dog whose hip score was very dramatic on one side and within expected range on the other. It was down to a green fracture as a puppy rather than a hereditary problem but proof had to be provided before it could be clarified. Alot of people don't even realise when their puppy has a green fracture so might be of interest??
Gunfield

yes that would be very interesting to see we can pop a note on it saying why the one sie was higher.
