HPR heaven

The second days shooting was over mixed HPRs.  Britts, Longhairs, Small Munsterlanders, GWP, Brittany/kleiner Munsterlander cross and Pudelpointer

Opening fanfare

Small Munsterlander

Longhairs

Brittany  / Small Munsterlander cross - not quite as big as a small lab.

Lunch is taken in the green cart -complete with tables and wood stove.  So warmth and a couple of nips of Kummel ......

Pudelpointer in mustard

Guns act as stops at the end of a drive.

Catja brings back a pigeon.

About to honour the bag.  The gentleman on the right is 87 and had a heart bypass operation about three weeks ago, he was out all day with his gun, he would go by car from drive to drive and sit and wait.

This shoot is a syndicate, members can shoot pigeon when they like but can only shoot brown harea nad pheasant when they are out in a group.  They are entitled to a number of roe deer per year and every three years a trophy buck.  The populations of all species are monitored in spring and autumn so they know how many they can take and also they talk with the neighbouring beats to agree cull rates.
The dogs hunt and point and run in to shot.  that is how they like it. the bag is distributed in a fair manner so that over the season everyone has an equal share.  So you may not shoot a bird but will go home with one.  The protocol is such that the game master (probably has a proper name) records who has what; after the blown tributes he  calls out  names in turn, how many to take and what species.  You collect from the end of the row nearest you and do not select from the row.  Luck may give you a dog mangled horror.  Everything goes home with someone.

Now I know how they so nearly won the war Wink

This is all very interesting Guy!

Why were there no Weims in Germany at a mixed HPR hunting day?

Josie - not sure why no Weims - I meant to ask but didn't.  The most popular hunting dog apparently is the GWP.

Great photos and very interesting. Thats what I like about hpr folk we are all interested in the other breeds in our group and what they all do in different countries. This is is sharp contrast to the Labrador trialest at our last field trial on our shoot who asked if Rumour was some sort of Snchuzer Evil or Very Mad

GWP's have about 3000 puppies per year, Weims 800 per year,  Brittanys 50 - 60 per year.

I wonder what the SM in the 2nd picture had done to deserve both barrels?
Liz

Yeh I was wondering that as well, John!
