Well done Mike for finding such a superb article, where did you find it? I have written to Sheila for permission to quote.
She is a world authority on canine genetics and with husband Joe are superb custodians of LM's in the US.Wouldn't it be great if they were invited over here, I'd be the first in line for a ticket.

It was Sheila who got the Animal Health Trust involved with the current DNA testing for HC in LMs

I did ask her regarding occurance in a related breed as there were some suggestions HC's could also be possible in UK GLP's. She thought not but I still had all my breeding stock eye tested. All were clear .

What it highlights is the lack of supervision of breeds in the UK. Didn't know until I wanted information Rare Breeds are not included on the KC data base.
Ask them how many have stud book numbers thro FT awards they can't tell you unless they check everything by hand which will cost the enquirer.
The onus is on RB clubs to collate their own information if their goal is future CC status. Promoting a breed as pure working won't influence this application. The KC does not separate a rare breed from what it does from what it is so stock has to be judged to their standard in the UK. RB clubs cannot organise their own trials until they apply for full breed status which means you have to put dogs in the ring to get it.
