judge bittenNew is filtering through that the GWP judge was bitten in the ring at Darlington:( I have been in wires for 20 years and feel very sorry about this, there seem to be some nasty dogs about at the moment at Bath this year there was a bitch being restrained by it owner on the benches to stop it 'flying' at other dogs and I heard there was also some sort of problem between 2 dogs at WKC. Not a good day for the breed

Ouch ! I hope the judge is O.K. and I hope the dog that did it is put down.
I have been hearing today about some "iffy" temperament work bred labs at shoots recently up here , I hope they all get the bullet too.

I have spoken to the judge since I got home tonight and she is sore and in shock that it actually happened as there was no warning at all - no growl or anything. The judge had owned the breed before - her first one some 20+ years ago so she is well aware of the progress the breed had made with regards to temperament and as such she is confident in the way that she "judges" each dog.
She has two puncture wounds on her forehead and another two wounds on the side of her nose and she said that she was aware that the bitch was "holding" her face - so she used her hands to prise her mouth open and off her face. She has been to hospital and had a tetunus jab and a course of anti-biotics.
Despite some excellent results in the ring I'm sure this incident will be the one thing people remember from this show more than the breed's successes.
Sad, sad day for the breed.........

would it be in bad taste to ask for the dogs pedigree? and was it put down?

The owner is a member on here and I think that information should come from her.
I was only reporting on the well being of the judge and the degree of injury.

Whilst I would NEVER condone this type of behaviour from any dog - we are not aware of the circumstances that led to this incident....not one of us knows what was going on with that dog at that moment - except possibly the owner &/or handler.
Therefore I would respectfully ask that we do not discuss it on this forum. Having shown dogs for over 15 years (and I have handled over 16 breeds) I can tell you all that this is a devasting thing to have happen to all concerned - least of all the poor dog!
Suffice to say that I am sure the owner is suffering enough already.

I agree as there is nothing worse than speculation. I'm glad the judge is feeling better & not a nice thing to happen to all concerned including the breed.

Very sad day for the breed. The breed has come a long way and have had some very successful dogs over the years, but as you say people will remember this incident for a long long time rather than remembering all the good dogs and success stories.
I hope everyone, including the owners are ok.

Most certainly, all the people concerned must be devastated. As has already been said one never knows what is going through our dogs' heads.
Perhaps the moderators should close this thread
