depends on the breed, stud dogs here usually don't have a restriction which I personally think is wrong, bitches again depends on breed but for the weimaraner its three litters in a lifetime not before her second birthday not after her seventh.
There are breeders who fail to adher to this though most just remove themselves from the club and join another or aren't members of a club at all and breed willy nilly so there is little control over breeding practises.
Try looking on the kennel club website or if you are interested in a specific breed contacting the club concerned.
One of the risks over over using a stud is that they run the risk of catching an infection like the herpes virus that can cause the bitch to lose their puppies, if they do it can be passed on to all the other bitches that the dog services with devastating consequences.
There is also the consideration of can you rehome the pups born from all the litters produced, stud dog owners rarely take any responsibility but a good breeder will and restrict their breeding practises accordingly.
personally I am ashamed of people who choose to overbreed their stock it shows a serious lack of care and duty to their animals.
