More munster greetingsHi all,
I live in North Yorkshire with my partner Lucy and our two Large Munsterlanders Inca and Kai. I decided to join the forum having been drawn into the wonderful world of 'working' HPRs by my two rogues!
Inca (14 months) is currently more of an HP dog, the R got lost somewhere along the way, but we're making progress so I'm pretty sure we're going to get there. Then I just have to convince her to swim!
Kai (9 months) has oodles of potential and endless enthusiasm for H,P and R so here's hoping I can do him justice. He's a very hot hunter, has a huge nose and plenty of German blood in his pedigree... enough said?!
I'm new to HPR training so I'm looking forward to learning much more over the coming years. I'm really getting involved in gundog work for the enjoyment of using my dogs' natural skills and taking it from there, but I would like to take part in tests and trials and perhaps work in the field if and when the time is right.
I'm also a big fan of clicker training and really pleased to see interest in this method growing in the gundog world.
Looking forward to being more involved in HPRs!

Thanks, nice to see some friendly munster 'faces' on here, and to meet some new HPR fans!
Helen, we're between York and the east coast so more the moors than the dales, but happily within driving distance of the dales for walks and weekends away!

Hi from bonny Scotland. Well, it would be bonny if only it would stop raining I've got 4 of the black and white beasties ranging from 15 months to 10 years. They get a tad addictive after a few years (I've had them since 1990 )

Hi Ali
Welcome to this forum. It is full of useful information and people are always ready to help. The working bug is very addictive so hope you enjoy it as much as Otter and I do.

Ah yes, I know all about munster addiction - I started young with my first two munsters at 12 so Inca and Kai are my 'second generation' and I'm already trying to figure out how I can fit a third munster in our little house in a few years' time...!
Thanks Fiona, we've certainly enjoyed the bits we've done so far and if we do half as well as you and Otter I'll be thrilled.
Claire, out of interest, do you know of any HPR trainers in the York area? I'm waiting to hear back from a few people but so far the nearest person I've found is in Leeds...

When I can get to it I actually go tho the GSP Yorkshire group training days run by Tony & Stevie Allerton [chalky on this board]
Penny Pickstone from the Weimaraner Association usually runs training sessions although I don't know where she is training at present.
Summer time is difficult for me to train as I am away so much and then have to get back into it fairly quickly come September
Who have you contacted so far?

Sorry it's taken me ages to reply Claire!
I asked on the Clicker Gundog forum first and there were three people mentioned...
- Christine Stansfield (Wolds Way) who runs general training courses and occasionally a general gundog one. I've trained with her before but had to cancel on the gundog course as my car broke down and cost me a fortune to repair the week before the course started!
- Phillipa Williams (Dogs for Life) who I understand is a retriever specialist and is only available on week days during office type hours, which isn't great for me as I work full time.
- Graham Slater (Oakshot gundogs) who I don't know much about and who hasn't got back to me yet!
Stevie Allerton was recommended to me by a friend and Kai and I had a session with her a couple of weeks ago which we enjoyed, unfortunately there was no wind so we focused on retrieving, but we had fun! I'm hoping to go along to the GSP club training to watch a session with a view to joining, but I know I can't make the October or November dates so I've not decided whether to go in September or wait until December. Either way, I look forward to possibly meeting you there!
Thanks for the welcome Barb!

LOL I know her and she had Jan Fennel in to her dogs as they were so BADLY behaved. I find it funny that she is training other peoples dogs now

Don't watch, join in! I never get there each month in fact I haven't been since April I don't think It's not that kind of training whereby you must attend each month - they are quite relaxed about the whole affair.

Interesting about Christine, I wouldn't have put her down as a 'dog listener' type!
I'll hopefully be going along to the GSP club training and joining in, but not until next year as I've managed to get things to clash with the next 5 sessions!
