Pheasant numbers on your shoot / ground ?Hi ,
I am about to release 200 phessies shortly (for dog training) but the ground is saturated and the rain / thunderstorms seem constant.
How are other forum members shoots / training grounds coping ??
I had a good number of wild chicks on my ground earlier in the year but they all seem to have perished. I am very strict with the vermin control so I can't help thinking that all this wet weather is to blame.
I would be interested to hear of fellow members experiences so far this season.

we've got good grounds enough water to keep things clean but not too wet so as to damage the birds. Ours aren't released for training dogs though sadly but for the shoot so we are banned from the pens till later on in the year when the dogging in starts properly.

Hi Barry,
The Triangle pheasants have not done well. Much of the ground there is still waterlogged. Ponds that normally dry out still have water. Over the last couple of weeks I've been looking in the areas normally frequented by the hens ( minus the mutt!) and haven't seen the droppings I would expect.

I was talking with the local keeper recently and he was saying that their 5000 birds have not been released yet due to the conditions. He normally releases birds at the end of July but this year he will be waiting until end of August. I will have to do the same as my release pen is waterlogged.
I fear those of you who rely on wild birds for your sport / training may well be in for a poor year. The wet weather seems to have all but wiped out this years broods (In my local area).
Hopefully we will get a dry spell and the released pheasants will do well - fingers crossed !!!
