I'm a sucker for books and have bought many but ones that I have found very good are:
The Versatile Gundog by Guy Wallace here
Training the Pointer-retriever Gundog by Michael Brander here
I'm sure there are many others that people can recommend

I prefer to read the older books meant for pointers and setters ,then add to that the writings of spaniel trainers and retriever trainers. I then try to get my H.P.R. to be 100% in the various disciplines. The pointers running and pointing, the trial spaniels utter steadiness even in the hottest of circumstances and the retrievers retrieving abilities.
I never will reach 100% but 80 % is more than what most H.P.R. folk aim for.
