Sorry but I am boasting.

As many of you know my youngster is hard work with capital letters and bells on. He is doing nicely albeit with a lot of battles along the way in the field but up until a week or so ago the show ring was pure battle even though he was consistently getting placed (not winning).

I saw a distinct improvement at Bath Champ when he was good for the judge but with smelly ground his nose never left the floor so movement was ****, normally movement is the thing that has pulled him into a place.

Sunday saw the Brittany Club Open Show and not only did the git manage to get a 1st in Junior Dog he went on and was awarded Best Dog too, to say I was gobsmacked was no understatement Very Happy . The day was also lovely as Mugi defended his Best Veteran Dog Trophy despite still being marginally lame on his front leg following his recent attack. Four weeks before I thought I would lose him so to see him happy back in the ring was great, winning his class was an unexpected bonus as although he only was competing against one dog he was nearly 5 years older!!

And very nice they both looked as well.

Congrats Sue!!  All the hard work pays off sometimes!!!

Poor Mugi, I missed that he had been attacked a while ago.  Glad to hear he is fine again now.

4 weeks ago Mugi was set upon unprovoked by a staffie type dog (unattended), he was held down by the throat for a considerable length of time and despite knowing it was the wrong thing to do in the end I had to try help which resulting in Mugi biting me and losing two front teeth in my middle finger Shocked . Once I finally kicked the dog off him I had to drop Mugi at the vets and take myself to hospital Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes .

Mugi came home without much doing as he was so shocked (physically and mentally) both the vet and I thought we would lose him and if that were to happen I wanted him to be home. In fact I couldn't persuade him out of the sanctuary of the car transit box for over 24 hours but he did take his painkillers and antibiotics with a little food.

He has had a slow but steady recovery and although he is carrying some scars, is definitely intermittently lame on the shoulder where he had the most soft tissue damage and he has lost some confidence he is looking more like himself and has his happy smile back.

For a dog who will be 12 next month he is still quite amazing and when he is pottering round the shooting lodge he is definitely on the look out for game!!!

God that sounds horrendous Sue, what happens to the staffie in the end!?  I hope the dog warden gets it!

Thanks Jo, we (DW and I) are pretty sure the Staffy type was connected with the fact it was around the time for a local horse fair. I don't want to make character judgements but you get what I am saying?????????

Well done, Sue.  That's great news. Well done to both Chase & to Mugi, too.  I'm glad that Mugi is recovering now. That was a terrible attack.

Apparently, in North Oxfordshire, pet dogs are being stolen as bait for fighting dogs based in a village very near to our postal town. The police, allegedly, won't do anything.

Anyway, well done again. It was good to bump into you the other week.  Bosco was terrible in his class. He wouldn't stand, wouldn't run properly and was a general pain. He came first. Oh well done Sue!! Very Happy

It's great when things like that happen, Blu used to play me up no end in the ring Rolling Eyes  to the point I was ready to give up Shocked   At Crufts I was dreading it as I just knew he was going to embarress me!  To my utter shock he was so well behaved Shocked   and then he went on to be be placed!

I now always go into the ring with a great sense of UNexpectation and then the results are an even better surprise!! (well, not all of them Embarassed )

Well done to Mugi too!  Bless him he has been through it all lately so what a lovely outcome for him!! Very Happy

Great to hear that the old boy is back on the road to recovery and winning his veteran class was fantastic. You have a dog to be proud of , I never tire of hearing about the "adventures" of Mugi especially seeing the photos of him on shootdays  Very Happy .

Thanks Barry

Mugi is such a special lad and I so wish we had found each other many years ago. We didn't though but even so I hope to give him all the chances to fulfill his destiny as I can.

Today he was hurtling around in the shoot grounds with such  a joy for life. He will be 12 next month and has some significant health issues - putting aside this attack which has aged him, despite this he has such joy in his working life that right or wrong I will let him work next season - if it is the end of him at least I know he will go happy. Equally on the day he is not at the car before me I will not insist he goes working.

Whatever he does he will be a special boy and I now have a possibility that in the future I may have found a way to have him live on in a pup (not his I hasten to add as although entire he has never been used and I would not do this to him)???

You have made an old dog very happy , it is great to see the joy in dogs eyes when they are out doing what they were bred for - don't you think !. I really admire all that you have done with Mugi and I am sure I am not alone.......... Very Happy

I am looking forward to this years shooting season and hopefully we can all share some memorable moments from the forthcoming season. I am sure Mugi will do you proud as always !!!!
