squirrels

Hi to you all.
I have a problem with Monet - today he caught and killed a squirrel any ideas on how i can break him of this before it becomes a habit. He ignores the whistle when he is on the scent of a squirrel and i have to go and get him. Ta Sallie

My GWP has killed two squirrels now and I think it is a good thing because it saves me on cartridges! Mine doesn't go looking for squirrels though but if there is one on the ground she will go for it.

Are grey squirrels classd as vermin or do you have to hide the body? Question Wink
BenB

They are very much classed as vermin - we shoot and trap them mercilessly because of the damage they do in the plantations. Last year alone we shot over 600 on the estate where I live.

It would be nice to see the red squirrels recolonising larger areas.

Red squirrels are protected any other colours are fair game and classed as rodents.
We have a friend who decided to make squirrel pie and asked us if we knew anyone who could get him a 'few'. Another friend who is a gamekeeper went out pointed his gun up a tree and let fly. He then put about two dozen bodies in a sack and gave us a call. I went and picked the sack up and dutifully took it down to the local pub where the first friend was enjoying a drink.....not for long however. I took the sack into the pub, opened it and pulled out a squirrel by it's tail [they had gone stiff by this time] it was just like a furry lollipop. Tom went green and the rest of the customers had mild hysterics. The pie did get made and was, I believe eaten, but when asked if he wanted some more the answer was a definate NO. The other thing he found out was they are a devil of a job to skin, his wife insisted that he do them in the garage and going past we could see all these little bodies pegged on a line waiting their turn. Well, if they are as vicious little buggas as that I'm not letting my little darlings go after them! And we'll just admire our reds from a distance as well in case they are fiesty too.

I was walking the dogs once when they all shot off after something (2 pointers, a gwp and a springer). Saw it was a grey squirrel so tried calling them off but needless to say, they didn't. My springer grabbed the squirrel which turned round and bit her on the lip! Lots of blood followed!

Those black squirrels sound SCARY Surprised!

They are just grey squirrels where the colour has mutated, perhaps the lust for blood has mutated as well.
I can feel an Alfred Hitchcock moment coming on......instead of The Birds we shall have The Squirrels!!!!!!! Wonder who could star in it? Any suggestions? The dafter the better.
How about Rowan Atkinson's Blackadder as the head of the pack?
