Training Video: Pointing and HonouringHi All,
Yesterday we finally got out to do some training after a winter from hell (we were more or less cooped up since early December, in fact it SNOWED only three days ago...)
Anywho, one of our goals this year is to teach a young Pont Audemer Spaniel to honour a point. My Ponto does it just fine, but her cousin Vinnie still needs to figure it out. So we headed to our training grounds with pigeons and launchers and figured we would give it a try.
On the way out the door, I decided to grab my video camera instead of my usual still camera just for fun. It ended up being a very educational session. Here is what I learned;
1. I suck at making videos
2. It is really hard to train a dog and video-tape at the same time..especially with the remote for the bird launcher in one hand and two or three dogs running around the field.
3. My dogs have completely forgotten what "steady to flush" means
4. Despite all the hassle, it was actually a lot of fun! I think I will ask a friend of mine who is a journalist with a pro video camera to come out one day to get some better footage.
So, if you are interested in watching my very amateur attempt at video, check out

and part 2

And please be gentle with your critiques....

Both videos are in Quicktime format (they were made on a Mac). You may have to install the Quicktime program in order to view them. It is free and easy to download/install here

For the Avi you need to have the DivX codec installed (which may also sort out the .mov files in Craig's links?)

Right i've tested it and that should work, best bet is to click one, let it run for a bit (Will be a bit jerky) and then click on the bar to go back ot the begining (it should be much less jerky then)

Thanks for posting that Mike!
And sorry about the poor quality footage. I have asked a friend of mine who is a professional videographer to come out to one of our training sessions to record some action.
Is there anything in particular that you would like to see? Running, pointing, retrieving, swimming... candid shots of my rippling ab's and manly biceps?

Craig , I would love to see your dogs doing the full HPR if possible. I'm not sure if you guys are in mid-season just now but if by chance you are , thats what I would like to see. Also more shots of your weimaraner bitch hunting , I was very impressed with her pace and drive in your first video !!
Look forward to seeing your next video - biceps and all !!
Barry.
