Training with Anne Johnson in Scotland

I just spent six days training my Britt on grouse with Anne Johnson (close to Keith, Scotland). We were in the area for a family Easter holiday and were lucky enough to find Anne. Very special thanks to Dick (and indirectly to Lee!) for that.

Although there probably exist other very experienced HPR trainers out there with grouse experience, Anne, in addition to being one of them, has the advantage of living surrounded by grouse moors (that hold grouse!). Anne has been working her GWPs for clients for many years and is also an A panel judge. She has a very interesting website here http://www.paintingsandpointers.co.uk/shootingoverpointers.htm.

We came to Scotland having only three days of experience on grouse, with very little success (for different reasons). With Anne's help, we both left deeply in love with a bird and a landscape that in my view is the pinnacle of HPR/pointing dog work. I say this somewhat sadly as I used to put my native wild red partridge and quail in first place!

Anne is very willing to take HPR handlers to train on grouse. If you want help on grouse, she is definitely someone very knowledgeable.

Running with some intention...

A good point

Her Majesty the red grouse

Dipper, Anne's GWP, who would hold on point forever if needed

Thanks! Glad you liked the pictures. It was definitely a great week for both of us.

Dipper, Anne's GWP, has a great working partnership with her. She completely trusts him knowing that Dipper would be very careful when around birds and wait for Anne on point as long as it takes. A real pleasure to watch!
