Weimaraner "Bio-Bank" (also Large Munsterlander)

Interesting article about the Weim bio bank (LM's apparently set one up last year as well).

Apparently DNA submission is now a pre requisite for granting breeding rights  in Germany. Also it appears the LH is more genetically diverse than the SH despite the much bigger SH population.

Thanks for the link Mike. I had heard about this study from some of the folks who own dogs involved in it. The results are quite interesting but should not come as much of a surprise. Purebred dogs are not as pure as we've been lead to believe and pedigrees are only as accurate and honest as the humans who keep them...not very.

The fact that the smaller LH gene pool is more diverse than the larger SH gene pool probably reflects, among other things, that more LH imports have been used in the last 25 years than SH imports. LH's from the US lines and some tracing back to French lines have been used. The US dogs may have brought back some long lost genes from many generations ago. The French connection may have brought..well...let's just call it "diversity".

Sounds right Craig !
