Whelping area temperature.

Roxy isn't due for three weeks but the cold temperatures made me consider what temperature I need in the whelping box? Canine body temperature is 100.5 - 102.5c. At least a couple of degrees above body temp?

Can you fix up a pig lamp Des......have it high enough so that your bitch can go under it without banging it.

I have an oil filled radiator [£30 from B&Q] in the the room which is on a thermostat. I usually like the room to be about 27 degrees for the first 3 weeks.

I have heat lamps but the temperature in the box isn't anywhere near even 27c which must be slightly below canine body temp. I like the idea of the oil filled radiator behind some sort of weld mesh screen. I'll take a look on Argos.

I don't like heat lamps since one of my bitches got a bad scald from one. I have been using an oil filled radiator a while now & it does seem to work well with happy warm puppies and a contented mum.

You can also get those heat pads for dog beds.
