Where to startOk, I'm new to this game. My previous dogs were trained by my ex, though I helped in the home, and the garden, with basic obedience. You know, the sit, stay, come commands. I want to train my new pup but just realised - where do I start? At the moment I still have the whole litter (first one goes today ) so I have to work round them all. They will be going to their new homes over the next couple of weeks as I agreed to look after them due to holiday and other commitments. I play fetch, though it turns out to be more I throw, pup picks up, runs around the garden with item and eventually sitting down to chew, or being attacked by another pup I've decide to start proper training today, but am I jumping the gun (sorry for the pun ) Any ideas or help gratefully received.

I agree with Les, the Gundog Club book is fantastic. It's to the point and not full of waffle. Depending what you want to do with the dog you might not want to put quiet as much emphasis on heelwork as you would for a retriever but other than that it should be fine.
Lets see some puppy pics then

Thanks for the advice, off to look for the book. The ones I have are mainly for Spaniels or Retrievers, and are very old .
As to photos - how do I put them on? You'll probably have to talk me through every step as I just don't understand these funny computer thingies

You will need to host your pic somewhere like flickr or photobucket. On the pic right click and copy the properties. Come onto here and hit reply or start a new message. Then hit Img on the main reply menu then paste thread then hit Img again. It put a square bracket [ img ] one end and [ /img ] the other end of the link (only no spaces I had to do that for display purposes.
If you copy the Flickr link use the small pic which is amongst all the other pics on the page. Don't click on the pic and use that link as it has a 0 on the end of it and mucks it up.
Here's the link for Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/

You did the big picture with the ?v=0 your link needs to end with jpg. Actually I have just learned that you can do the bigger picture but just delete the end bit that way we see the bigger one and not the ickle one.

All I do is click on where it says 'attach file' underneath the box and follow the instructions.

Yay! Thank you! Now all I need to do is figure out how to make it smaller!

I didn't notice that one. Thanks. Linda there was a box to tick if you wanted it smaller and then we can click on it to make it bigger when viewing.
Learn something new everyday don't ya

Lesley, I like your training collar with the leather. Where did you get it?

I had it made out our local tack shop Helen. She rolled the collar and the handle of the lead. Was much better value than any of the shops on the internet at the time too.
