In my believe, if you want a true langhaar you have to look at the FCI standard.
We are breeding GLP like FCI standard and Brenda is to. If you want a breed to run faster by putting another breed into it , thats okay with me but dont call it a GLP.
It is a mix and maybe a good huntingdog. But this is not my thing.
I want to breed a Longhair who is looking like a longhair and acting like one.
For now the first GLP thats registrated is Pepita Hünnefeld, she was born in 1886, and her reg no is 1.
I can say my dogs are related to Job I He was born in 1879. So far there pedigree is going back.
I remember in the 80's attending a meeting of Gordon triallers who were up in arms because the main Club didn't want the tri's registered as Gordon's . Does Anna remember this ? Also Will Sparrow, a young man with tri's that were very good. Julie Organ also ran an all orange pointer, the only one I have seen.
I just heard from one of the breederssection of the board of the club that the chairman of our club had once a GLP all white with black around the eye.
We have to start our owne club, but in Holland we are not allowed to do that.
I'm amazed that the differences in types of Weimaraners can be brought into this discussion, especially when those types are vastly generalised. One thing that showing on the continent teaches is how to appreciate that there are different types, and there are good and bad examples of ALL types. My bitch is shown, yes, but her mother and father have had to prove their working ability before even being bred. Her mother is an Int Ch, and her father is a bloodtracking champion. Her pedigree is a mixture of European and Australian and American lines. She has been judged by international judges including German, under FCI standards. I do not expect everyone to appreciate her type, but I don't appreciate people making generalisations that American descended Weimaraners are not able to do this and that and the other. The same kind of comments were often used against longhairs, just because of their coat length, but how they are proving themselves now.
I would never dream of making such comments on types, I just don't believe I have the experience in the breed to make them, despite seeing Weimaraners in the flesh in other countries.
Regarding the GLP, it's very sad that the breed faces the challenges of the actions of those that thought they knew better. Did they do this to improve the appearance in the showring or their performance in the field only? How long has the effect taken to come through the lines? Has this affected the majority of the gene pool yet?

I am sorry if you feel offended by my comments but I think if you re-read what I actually wrote you will see that I make it clear that it is a generalization, if you can't talk about types within a breed in "general" how can you discuss them? Obviously when discussing a generalisation there will be exceptions, there always is.
I am a member of the Weimaraner Club of America and receive the monthly newsletter and in my opinion there are a lot of very exaggerated dogs doing very well in the show ring or would you disagree with that statement?
I am not rubbishing your dog or her lines why would you think that I am?

Personal opinion is what it is, personal, there may be many opinions of what is "breed type ", that's why we enter under a variety of judges, here and abroad to find out. Ask the majority of folks about it and the answers will be all different. But each breed has a standard.
Until anyone has examined dogs hands on and learnt what balance feels like and what good movement is etc, judgements can only be made by what we see, either from the ringside or in photo's.
For me, the concepts of what makes a weimaraner is very interesting , the only continental ones I have seen were the Dutch ones that came over. Dave Pilkington's bitch was always a pleasure to watch as much as one of Susie's, again a bitch I think from German lines. Mick Phillips who runs the HPRFT info was one of the first to trial them. I've seen some crackers in the ring too.
I thought Mike's analysis of Weim types was spot on. I feel like we've flapped around establishing that by getting a subtle feel for it all though Mike, I wish someone had just told us something that outright at the beginning, it would have helped no end
