Mike,
did you mean Slovak wirehaired pointer/Slovensky hrubosrsty stavac? I will post pictures of those in the sticky. And more about them as well. Have not got time to write it down right now. But I will do it. I promise.

Not sure Hana! I was looking through a Weimaraner book last night and they were mentioned there. I will have a closer look tonight. _________________ South Devon Rep for:

They could be mention there but they are not existing FCI breed as far as I know the Slovenska hrubosrsty stavac was bred partly from them.

They did excist in Czech for example, but I have never ever seen a photo of a wirehaired Weimaraner. The SRP is a different breed. _________________ www.langhaarweimaraner.nl |

No such thing as a wire haired Weimaraner, (according to several of the doyennes of the breed in the UK); there is shorthair, longhair and what they call "stockhaar" which is an incorrect coat.
What was originally thought of as a WHW is in reality a SRHP.
They vary from looking hardly different from a Weim, to very shaggy indeed. One of the reasons I did not have one when offered one, as there are so many "varieties".
I know someone who is planning to do Working Trials with one and another who is planning to compete in Obedience. _________________ Nothing could be finer than to work a Weimaraner! |

In Gillian Burgoin's book, The Guide To The Weimaraner (the Bible) on page 135 'The Weimaraner in Czechoslovakia', there is a picture of a wire-haired Weimaraner. The caption to the picture is "From Chechoslovakia comes this rare wire-haired Weimaraner owned by Josef Kalny........" |

Thats where I saw it Weima, I was suprised to see the caption go on to say that the dog won 1st prize for sharpness on cats and I then read on and find out that the Germans have a test for sharpness on humans I knew German dogs were supposed to be sharp but I didn't realise that meant delibrately sharp towards people!!
Interestingly she goes on to say that the Czechoslovakian Weimaraner Club recognised the wirehair Weims and tried to get the German club to recognise them. They refused and she also goes on to say that they think there is pudel-pointer blood in the wirehair.
I can see were you are coming from Allyson but looking at the picture in Gillians book it doesn't look much like a SRHP, but then again who knows! _________________ South Devon Rep for:

I am not an expert on W. But please trust me on this one. I am sure of it. As I said yesterday, there are not WHW the dogs looking like one are SRHP.
I read the pages of Czech W club yesterday and it says they were trying to get the WHW to be recognized as a kind of W, the german club did not agree, but they were willing to recognize them as a separate breed and that is how the SRHP/Slovensky hrubosrsty stavac start to exist. The SRHP history says the same.
