Chris,
I am curious, after 12 years of Weims why move to the Brittany?

Hi Big Mike !

Well, I met this breed with a girlfriend..... Laughing
The breed was first imported in France by her grand father.

My hart stays in "grey form".....but I have to say that I have fun with these munsterlanders.

Brittanys is "EPAGNEUL BRETON " , a pure french breed, coloured orange+white, black and white or 3 colours orange+black+white.

Little Munsterlanders are german and only brown+white....

Their hunting style is quiet different here...!

Embarassed For some reason I read it as Brittany and not small munsterlander Embarassed

My first Weim came with my better half attached Smile

How do you find the American Weim at hunting in comparison to the European Weims? Are there any specific differences you can pin point?

We seem to have quite a lot of small Munsterlanders on the forum Very Happy

Yes Big Mike!

I feel a great difference between French and american weims.

I will try be short, but there is many reasons.

French weims were not bred for trialing, but just to hunt. But in France, if you want to get high in the pointing dog world.....the way is very long with a weim.

I think that only 3 or breeders are really breeding dogs for trialing. So our dogs are heavy and don't run very much.....even I'm proud of mines !

I know that in France, many breeders crossed weims with german pointers, english pointers and so on...but it is not allowed, and you never know exactly was was done before.

So I met Craig KOSHYK, canadian hunter and weim lover. He sent me to Deb and Myron MEIFERT to choose a puppy.....and I did that.

Well, if you add my experience to that, I trained my USA boy seriously and did very big accomplishments for his 5 first trials.....placing him in the top 5 of Trial in the breed for his first year.

He's very young and not finished at all.
He's a very hard runner, short built, exc smell, naturally pointing and steady......French weims are missing that.
But french weims are retrieving alone.....and I feel like I will need to teach this to Vini.....but I don't mind ! I prefer that !

This autumn, he will run between 10 and 15 Trials with a professional trainer....I have a nice feeling for this year and the Breed championship.

Hello Chris and welcome,Smile
I am a small munsterlander owner from the Czech republic and I am pretty much involved with other breeds such as English pointers and GSPs.
I would love to know more about field trials in France as you mentioned that you organize them.
One of my friends is planning to take his dogs to the international field trials as they did very well here (he is going to the Croatia in the autumn and to Kleemann). His GSP female was 2nd at the international field trial in Telnice and got titles res. CACT, res. CACIT.

Hi Chris,

I have so many questions for you too, I don't know where to begin.... Very Happy

This one's just for curiosity - how easy was it to import your Weim from the US? I think maybe it is easier to import to mainland Europe than to the UK, as we have the Pet Passport scheme, and the dog would be 8+ months before it could be imported? Can you import earlier to France?

Second, is there a French Weimaraner Club, and do you have a website link for it?

Third, in terms of competitive gundog work in France, what is available? Are there just field trials? Is there something like our "working tests"? What different classes can you enter at field trial level?

Fourth, how easy/difficult is it to obtain a gun and a hunting/shooting licence in France? I'm assuming you can only shoot on private land? I just ask this because it seems to me that more people do rough shooting in France than in the UK - at least, whenever we're in France, driving along motorways, we often see a couple of people out with a dog and a gun. Never see that in the UK when I'm just driving along. So - is it easier? Or is this a social difference? Lastly - can you "translate" or explain all the qualifications after your dogs' names? Ok, I'll stop my questions there Very Happy
