| josie wrote: | Hi Chris,
- This one's just for curiosity - how easy was it to import your Weim from the US?
- For me ! yes, it was easy...the hard job was for the producer.
- I think maybe it is easier to import to mainland Europe than to the UK, as we have the Pet Passport scheme, and the dog would be 8+ months before it could be imported? Can you import earlier to France?
- Yes, my dog was 4 month old when he came here.
Second, is there a French Weimaraner Club, and do you have a website link for it?
- Yes, we have one but there's nothing interessant to learn more than anywhere else.
- Third, in terms of competitive gundog work in France, what is available?
-Natural ability test for hunting, summer, spring and autumn Field TRial, BICPO like navdha.
-Is there something like our "working tests"?
-Yes BICP
- What different classes can you enter at field trial level?
No difference between anydog of any age.
- Fourth, how easy/difficult is it to obtain a gun and a hunting/shooting licence in France?
- You have to pass an exam.
- I'm assuming you can only shoot on private land?
- There's private land and local associations (cheeper).
- I just ask this because it seems to me that more people do rough shooting in France than in the UK - at least, whenever we're in France, driving along motorways, we often see a couple of people out with a dog and a gun. Never see that in the UK when I'm just driving along. So - is it easier? Or is this a social difference?
- Well, once you have your exam, you have to pay an insurance and a validation for the ground you want. Then you can ask to enter in a private club or in a local association. There's no social difference.....anyone can hunt anywhere.....it hangs only on how much you can pay.
Lastly - can you "translate" or explain all the qualifications after your dogs' names? Ok, I'll stop my questions there |
-Well, it will be a bit longer.
TRIALER is a french title you e arn when you get 2 placements EXC in autumn trial or 2 placements Very Good in wild game (snipes, spring, woodcocks).
-RECOMMANDED is a title you earn when your dog is both pointed in autumn EXC and at spring VERY good) + x-Ray Displasia excellent, very good or good (A,B,C).
-EUROPEAN CH = Winner of the european dog show
-FRENCH CH - = Winner of the French Champioship Dog show
-Comformation Ch = Winner of the following 4 CACS : French Championship or National Breeding Championship, dog show special of breed and 1 dogshow anywhere.
-International ch = Winner of minima 2 CACIB ( 1 in France and 1 in an other land of the FCI + VERY GOOD in Trial or BICP + Dysplasia A or B.
-Breed trial CH = Dog who won the bests 6 results in the year.
-BICP is quoted on 8 x 4 points (pointing, retrieving, searching, general obedience....+ Water working on ducks).
-National BICP challenge : most of points in BICP in the year.
- Field pointed EXC = tonic searching (15mn)+ pointing + steady + retrieving perfect.
Anything more ??
Chris

Oh yes there's more!
In your field trials, do all the HPRs run against each other? Or are there separate classes, for different breeds, based on ground coverage? _________________ Slate and Grey

Hi !!
There are differents TRials.
You can run in "special of Breed trial" (only one breed) and "Interclub trial" (4 breeds) organized by breed clubs and "open trial" (all continental together or all setters and pointers together) organized by local kennel clubs.
In each case, you can enter in solo or in pair.
In France, We use to run in solo untill the dog become solo champion, after that he runs in pair.
To become solo champion, he has to win 1 x 1st EXC+CACT in breed club and 3 x 1rst EXC+CACT in open Field.
2 x 2nd EXC+RCACT can substitute 1 of these CACT only.
There's no limit of age to run in each field trial.
At spring, you run in big open Fields on partridges.... (Wild game)...in north of France
In summer, the same.....(Wild game)...every where.
In autumn, the most of time we run in woodlands (bred game)...every where
We have Woodcocks trials too in woodlands.
I hope I gave god answers..

Yes, thanks Chris. So - in France, you can enter a field trial any time of year??
Are there people who "prefer" to enter the spring trials, or the summer or autumn trials? And why? _________________ Slate and Grey

Hi Chris,
just wanted to know if there are any field trials he could attend and run his dogs in(he is pointer and GSP breeder). I am sorry to say that none of us can speak French so it is a bit uneasy to find information about field trials in France on internet. Is there any web page you would reccomend to visit or which has usefull information such as field trial calendar?
It is my friend's dream to go to a field trial in France as he says there are best trailers there.

Josie....
I think I can say yes.....but there is no trial between april 15th and june 30th......the birds are reproducing !
Of course, pepeole have their preferences....most of time, it depends on where they live.
The grounds and the coverage in the north are better to run spring trial and south to run Autumn....
Hana
For the trials in France....look there:
http://perso.orange.fr/dresseurs-...os/CALENDRIER%20AUTOMNE2006_2.pdf
Here, you will find all on the next trials here.....adress, tel, between july and december...
Good luck !
